Shock Poll: 59% Back Trump On Deportation of Illegals

Immigration: When Donald Trump proposed mandatory deportation of illegal aliens, pundits and politicians on both sides of the political aisle were appalled. But on this issue it looks like Trump has the public on his side.

The fire from the right was almost as fierce as that from the left. "It's not conservative and it's not realistic and it does not embrace American values," said Jeb Bush.

Sen. Lindsey Graham called it "absolute gibberish."

Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer called the idea "crackpot" and "morally obscene."

But the prize for overheated rhetoric goes to Hillary Clinton, who said Trump wants to "literally pull people out of their homes and their workplaces, round them up, put them, I don't know, in buses, boxcars, in order to take them across our border."

So what do these folks say about the fact that the majority of Americans back Trump on this?

The latest IBD/TIPP Poll asked 913 adults coast to coast if they "support or oppose mandatory deportation of illegal immigrants in the U.S." Not surprisingly, 87% of Trump supporters back the proposal.

What's surprising is that 59% of the overall public does as well. Mandatory deportation gets majority support in all age groups except 18-24, every income group, among both women and men, at every level of educational achievement, and in rural, urban and suburban regions.

More interesting still is the fact that 64% of independents and 55% of moderates support deportation.

Even among Hispanics, the poll found 40% backed mandatory deportation

I agree, but there are just some people out ther so angry that it clouds their minds and they cannot see past the rage, and for all intents and purposes, the cult of personality mode takes over...

Whatya gonna do???

I can’t wait for the primaries to get underway...Get those flimsy moderate first states out of the way and muscle thru the Super Duper Tuesday group, and we’ll see who is really going to lead...

Should be a nice reality check...

I agree, there is clearly a lot of anger out there...and decisions made while angry do not, in my exerience, usually work out that well.

It should be noted that the anger out there was created by our political class - BOTH SIDES. The politicians have failed us for 50+ years, have disregarded what people want in pursuit of their own selfish goals (only one of which is to be elected or re-elected), and they have barely concealed (and in some cases not done so at all) their contempt for us. Trump is ALL about the fact that people are sick and tired of business as usual - and so is Bernie Sanders (I don’t think that most Dems are any happier about Hillary being the one and only choice, any more than Republicans are happy about Jeb being the new annointed one). Trump is, for all of his many faults, a breath of fresh air - he absolutely says whatever the heck he wants to, he doesn’t kiss anyone’s rear end, and he let’s you know that he’ll fight for this country and its people like he fights for his own profits. If he’s elected, we’ll find out if he’s telling the truth - in that sense, he’s no different than any other pol (because it simply isn’t possible to know for sure, it is the nature of the game).
