What has Dr. Carson done in his campaign for such result?

The only thing I can think of is a large contingent of white guilt on the right.

I don't see how Carson is getting 2nd and 3rd place results. A few of his stands are certainly not conservative. He has modified his 2nd amendment stand several times. He denied, then admitted referring women to abortion clinics.

I keep getting a feeling that there is a lot of liberal in sheeps clothing with him.

White guilt got us to where we have devolved to in the last almost 7 years. Unlike Obama, Carson loves and understands America. But, he has not “evolved” on many issues such as the misunderstanding he has about the 2nd Amendment.
