Retired Four-Star General Jailed Over Chinese Takeout

A retired four-star U.S. Army general was out on bond Tuesday after being taken to the Fayette County jail over the weekend for allegedly ordering Chinese food without paying for it .....

....... Fayetteville police Chief Scott Pitts said that after his order from the Royal Chef restaurant arrived at his home, Livsey tried to pay the driver with a debit card that was declined. When Livsey offered to pay with a check instead, the driver told him checks were not accepted by the restaurant and he would have to take the food back, the police chief said.

That is when Livsey allegedly grabbed the driver's throat and facial hair, pushed him and pinned him against a refrigerator in his kitchen. During the assault, police said, two people in the home took the food, placed it on a counter and began eating it.

Officers went to Livsey's home in the 200 block of Carriage Chase.

As officers tried to handcuff him, Livsey resisted, according to the police chief. The struggle created a small laceration on Livsey's arm. Fayette County EMS was called to the scene to treat the injury and police tried to handcuff Livsey again.

The police chief said Livsey tried "to punch one of the officers and kick another one all while making threatening and disparaging remarks."

The retired commander said there were several guests at his house at the time of the incident. He said he sent his assistant to the restaurant to pay for the food and give the driver a tip. Livsey also said Royal Chef wanted to drop the incident but the Fayetteville police made "a spectacle of it and a spectacle of me." ........

I agree. I posted most of that account at my post in #61. This general, IMHO, should be completely exonerated.

There are MANY somebodies in this country that NEED beatings.

No argument there.

Bedgood charges the multiple officers (“seven cop cars and nine officers”) mishandled the complaint, including handcuffing the 84-year-old so tightly his wrists bled.

Rusty - I pinged you over an example of "a law enforcement presence to protect our communities".

Really? NINE officers to put the pinch on an 84-year-old guy?

REALLY?

We're beginning to see this "pack of coon hounds" mentality A LOT everywhere in the country. It's not pretty.

It tells me that there are too many police officers of various law enforcement branches.

He’s 84, with an illustrious career. I would absolutely cut him some slack.

So none of his guests had cash or a credit card number to phone in to the restaurant? I find it kind of hard to believe that no one in the house had any other form of payment. Sounds like alcohol may have been a contributing factor here.

Sounds like Boot Leather might be a factor here:

"Bedgood said he left to pay the food bill in person at the restaurant, and when he returned, police in force had Livsey in cuffs outside with individual police units stationed at several intersections in the neighborhood."

I suppose the "individual police units stationed at several intersections in the neighborhood" were necessary, in case the former general had a roving battalion-strength Combat Command in the area to rescue him...

From another, more accurate article:

"Bedgood [Livsey's personal caregiver and driver] said he left to pay the food bill in person at the restaurant, and when he returned, police in force had Livsey in cuffs outside with individual police units stationed at several intersections in the neighborhood."

**** “That was dumb. If you have no way to pay the man, you need to let him take the food back.” *****

BS

Have the man keep the check as an IOU come in the next day and pay with Cash, get the check back.

I have done similar for FAR MORE MONEY. Many of my Contracts are un-written, just a handshake. In all of my years the only problem that I have ever had were with the folks that wanted 27 pages of small print.

Cops just don’t like to be dismissed.

I’m 20 years the Generals Jr but I still work with a Mans Word is his Word.

I was in the military as well but I’ve learned the hard way that a man’s word is not always to be relied upon.

was he middle eastern LOOKING ?

Don't know as the article does not show a picture of him, or even mention his name.

I honestly think there is more to the story then what we are being told.

One thing for certain is that it was strange behavior if what they are saying about the General is accurate. At 84 years of age he could have beginning signs of mental issues.

Also not sure why 10 cops had to show up for an 84 year old man, or why they felt it necessary to handcuff him, unless he is one exceptional 84 year old specimen.

Let's just hope all turns out well. Hate to see someone who fought hard to protect our freedoms be unfairly treated.

BTW, I’m not advocating at all the police response to this incident - it was way excessive. Used to be that most incidents like this could be solved with a single squad car and nobody getting arrested unless they did something really bad. Remember Adam-12?

From that post I wouldn’t put much stock in your judgement either. It’s $80 and he proffered a Check ... fix it in the morning, get a big tip and Drive On.

What is being left out in this story is why the General reacted as he did, if he did. It certainly wasn’t because his debit card was declined and a check was not to be accepted.
