A good, hard look at the statistics will tell you why African Americans have reason to fear an encounter with police.
Its never much of a surprise when I hear it, but it stings all the same. Freddie Gray would be alive today if only he hadnt inexplicably sprinted down his West Baltimore street. As would Walter Scott, the African-American man who was shot in the back in South Carolina fleeing a white police officer who then made an unsuccessful attempt to frame Scott for provoking his own destruction.
If only Sandra Bland hadnt been so rude and had put out her cigarette when asked, no matter her constitutionally protected rights to both. If only Samuel DuBose had not tried to pull his car away from a Cincinnati university officer who then proceeded to empty a shell into his skull.
If only.
The question persists: Why do they run? Why do they run? Why dont they just cooperate with the police? This is America, after all: a country where one is presumed innocent until proved guilty.
I know why. I am a black man, and I have been arrested. I am also a husband and father of three, a lawyer, a former White House aide and now a candidate for Congress.
The police made a mistake, as humans inevitably do. It was a little more than a decade ago, when I was in my early 20s and well on my way toward a promising career. good leg muscles ???
Because they are being chased! ;-)
Outstanding warrants?
The stolen goods in their possession?
They’re carrying something that isn’t theirs?
Because they are guilty and have previous warrants?
1. They have been brainwashed to believe that they should.
2. They think it's their right to do so.
3. They think they can get away with it.
indoctrination aka upbringing
If I was black I’d run from the police.
That whole, “I’m in fear for my life”, stuff isn’t just for cops.
Black POLICE OFFICERS aren’t even safe from the police!

I’ll bite - because they know which laws they have broken, but they do not know which ones the police actually know about if any. So they take off.
They’ve already been convicted twice in a “three strikes and you’re out” state?
right.....not.
The ability to out-run a donut muncher? (Assuming they can keep their pants up...)
Well, when they’ll shoot another cop 28 times - and 21 times in the back then there just might be something to it.
Warrants.
Guilt? Low pants?
Guilt.
There is a glaring omission in this story! Why isn’t Michael Brown mentioned?
