Why did they hire him in the first place anyways? Affirmative action hire maybe?

Probably his resume was only slightly less stellar the the (p)resident’s resume.

Why did they hire him in the first place anyways? Affirmative action hire maybe? Probably affirmative action, but also probably because most companies don't give references any more - just indisputable facts - dates of employment and attendance records. If a company gives a bad recommendation, the job applicant will sue them. If a company gives a good recommendation and the employee turns out to be nuts, the new company will sue the old company. This guy probably sent his resume and 3 good pieces of film of him (probably the only 3 good ones out of 500) and got hired.

Affirmative action is the ONLY reason to hire someone like this. The chances are minuscule that there were not numerous better qualified candidates available. Not to mention ones that would not bring the risk of racial drama and a chip on the shoulder attitude that certain groups have.
