In his latest showdown, Donald Trump ordered Univision anchor Jorge Ramos out of a news conference Tuesday, telling him to go back to Univision.
Ramos, who like Trump is known for his confrontational style, didnt back down until he was escorted out of the room by security. Eventually, Ramos was invited back, where he sparred with Trump over the Republican candidates immigration proposals.
Trump has had some high-profile tiffs with media figures recently, battling publicly with Fox News Channel anchor Megyn Kelly, and on Tuesday with the networks chairman, Roger Ailes.
But prodding Ramos, who has been called the Spanish-language Walter Cronkite, could prove dangerous for Trump, who thus far been something of a Teflon candidate. Heres why:
Ramos is a very important figure for American Latinos
The 57-year-old has anchored Noticiero Univision, Spanish-language TVs No.1-ranked newscast, for nearly three decades and is considered a trusted source of news. A 2010 study by the Pew Hispanic Center found that among Latinos, Ramos was the second-most recognized Latino leader behind Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, and other polls have shown he is one of the most trusted public figures among Latinos.
"Spanish-language news has almost the same pull as the priest in the pulpit," Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Los Angeles), told the Los Angeles Times in 2013. "And Jorge Ramos is the pope, he's the big kahuna."
Ramos has a lot of followers: According to Nielsen ratings, more than 2 million viewers tune in to Noticiero Univision nightly. For perspective, in 2013, that was three times the audience of CNNs The Situation Room With Wolf Blitzer.(continued)

"Ramos, who has been called the Spanish-language Walter Cronkite"
The real Walter Cronkite was a silly little jerk--and NO MATCH for the Trump Card!
A slimy little imitation of Cronkite is DEFINITELY NO MATCH for the Trump!
So, George really can’t speak truth to power?
This article is insane. I honestly thought that trumps shining moment on this campaign has been his handling of this reporter. It was masterful.
No, he picked the right one. But media star is an awful nice way to describe a Marxist attack dog who’s the mouthpiece for a company Trump is suing for a half a billion dollars and whose daughter works for Hillary’s campaign.
That might be an idea I would keep to myself and express more positive influences
I think there will be sufficiently successful hard working g*d fearing Latin American U.S citizens properly, that will support Trump, they see the wave they escaped is ebbing back towards them. They see the Mexican Crime Lords eyeballing U.S political influence and in fact they are destined to participate with.
With Trump, I think we’ll have an increase in Black Conservative voters who are no longer enamoured with the first Black President. Whe’re not going to get more than 8-12%. But that will be a good deciding factor.
With Trump, I think we’ll hold our own at around 25% of the Latino vote.
White male voters are going to increase, but they won’t carry Trump to the Presidency, we’ll need some women along with them. So that’s where the fights going to be. Hillary hammering us on women’s issues and ‘us’ hammering on scandal — scandal that will in fact be ‘old news’, as Hillary gets a pass and a chance to put her case to the American people.
I think he picked the perfect turd to flush down the toilet.
Jorge Napoleon
He royally screwed up and this story telegraphs Jorge napoleon told everyone he was going to do this. This was another takedown effort.
Walter Cronkite was a liar
Jorge ramos is a new walter Cronkite
Jorge ramos is a liar.
makes sense.
The LA Times? Who cares what the LA Times thinks.
Supposedly Ramos entered the US on student visa. He had to have fallen out of status (illegal). Wonder how he got work and eventually a green card? Reagan amnesty? Clinton Amnesty? Were either of his wives citizens? I think one from Spain, one from Cuba.
Tequilq?
I am predicting a hugh and series impact on both L.A. Times readers.
Trump should have given a mic to Ramos and asked him to articulate his views on immigration. Anchor babies, chain migration and illegal entry is his game plan.

Hmmm, someone else is talking that way.
Anyway, Trump said something that was hard to pick up in that press conference which was that he has not even started campaigning for the Hispanic vote.
When he does, I expect a fair level of ‘surprise’ just as happened with the white vote, where Trump went from something like 70% saying that they would NEVER vote for him (and therefore, according to the ‘experts’, could never win) to 70% say that they could vote for him. He says a LOT of things that (legal) Hispanics will appreciate.
Same will happen as he targets blacks. Just the Planned Parenthood videos alone, if the TRUTH is allowed to be told, those babies are probably, mostly, black babies. Herman Cain was just starting to hit there when the bimbos showed up. Trump is already past the bimbos and disgruntled co-worker stage (i.e., he’s been on top for a long time...if something was waiting to come out, it would be out by now)...his only direction with Hispanics and Blacks, at this point, is simply UP!
Ramos is the highest-paid journalist in the world, pulling in an astonishing $75 million between July 2014 and July 2015, a nearly $40 million lead over his closest competition.
So, why isn’t he “fixing” Mexico?
Wonder how the Mestizoes and Indios feel about this guys white European butt?
She was a radiologist, 2 brothers were doctors in other specialties, and the others were successful in engineering and business.
