S. Carolina GOP Gives Trump Ultimatum-Pledge Allegiance to Rep. Nominee or You're Off Primary Ballot

Donald Trump has until the end of next month to formally declare his allegiance to the Republican Party or his name will not appear on the South Carolina presidential primary ballot.

South Carolina GOP Chairman Matt Moore confirmed the requirement this afternoon that candidates filing as Republicans must pledge not to turn as a third-party candidate should they lose the nomination.

At least two other states - Virginia and North Carolina - are contemplating similar moves as way of keeping the unpredictable billionaire in check.

Linda Graham has said he won’t support Trump if he wins. Graham looks to be lying here.

Yep, Trump should turn it on them. I’m just a voter, but if they manage to nominate a rhino there is no way in hell I will give any support.

Do they accept write ins? Trump would probably still crush Lindsey then.

I’m going completely from memory, but it seems to me that the SC GOP has more control over its primary than any other state. They pay for the primary, and they do so by charging the candidates an exorbitant fee to get on the ballot. Again, this is from memory, but as of 2008, I think it was like $35,000.00, far more than the fees charged by all the other states combined.

On three occasions, Big Donors have tried to organize efforts to keep Trump out of the first debate, or have other candidates "take him out" in the debate, and in September to have two candidates run negative ads to "take him out".

Maybe there should be a requirement that these "Big Donors" be identified and no candidate who accepted and kept the money from Big Donors trying to manipulate the primary process should be allowed on a state ballot/

Trump has been treated unfairly, and those instances should become a part of this conversation and all the state officials should be made to take a stand on the tactics Big Donors have used to try and thwart the voters' right to hear from all viable candidates.

Does the SC GOP not realize other candidates for the house, senate and
local races will be on the same ballot? And that pissed off voters could
end up “Cantoring” the whole lot of them as payback?

>> Not surprising, but that’s probably what Trumps toilet seat covers cost...so no biggie what they charge for him :)

From a previous post:

Here’s my take:

Let’s say Trump stays on top during the primaries, and they see the nomination in his grasp. Here are the options for the RNC/GOPe/RINOs or whatever you call them:

1. Pass a new rule to an open ballot at the GOP convention, then threaten every delegate with campaign fund freeze out if they cast a vote for Trump on the floor.

2. Start packing GOP caucuses with democrats (I suspect they’ll try this anyway)

3. IRS audit of Trump or his family’s holdings.

4. Swating of the Trump offices (if you don’t know what ‘swating is’, google it)

5. Someone or something represented by Gloria Alred (they always whip this card out when they are desperate. No doubt she’s on the bench waiting)

6. Deny Secret Service protection, drop itinerary details to your Central american or tango from team jihad currently climbing a southern fence.

7. Give Secret Service protection, and insert “contractors-for-hire” within. Lookup “Plausible Deniability”.

8. Cause a mass causality incident; blame Trump’s rhetoric.

9. Come up with a reason he can’t get a security clearance, then run with it.

10. If none of the above works and Trump wins the nomination, either run a RINO as 3rd party, or the whole GOPe endorses the democrat nominee.

Oh, and BTW: To the enemies of America who are no doubt reading this and may be getting ideas, the way the political and economic climate is these days, ANY of these scenarios happening would probably ignite a 2nd civil war.

just my $02.
jimjohn - out.

If they exclude Trump he should go down there on that day, find Linda, and chest bump him just a little and say “I heard you shooting your mouth off, go ahead take your best shot”.

Horse Hockey!

If The Donald wins the nomination, NONE of those RINOs will support him. THEY will run a third party candidate, like that Murkowski witch did.

Not binding. Trump can sign it and later change his mind.

“Sounds to me like Lil Lindsey is the one that needs to sign it.”

I wonder if the GOP is cool with that if one of their chosen gets beaten in the primary by a tea party candidate?

That senator from Alaska comes to mind.

Can they legally do that?

State Legislatures appoint Presidential electors as they see fit.

It so happens that all 50 have seen fit to use popular voting in some form to determine the choice of electors, but it is not required.

In fact, I don't think there is anything in the Constitution to govern or to restrict this power - a State Legislature could arguably say that no Catholics could be appointed as electors, for example.

So, a State Legislature is within its rights to say that Presidential electors will be appointed as a result of a "beauty contest" vote between the nominees of the Republican and the Democrat parties.

The “platform” doesn’t exist until it is written, read, and voted on at the Convention in July of 2016.

No one can pledge to support a nonexistent document.
