~~Heroic Safari guide mauled to death by charging lion as he protected his guests in the same Zimbabwean park where Cecil was illegally hunted~~
A Safari guide has been mauled to death and hailed a hero as he tried to protect his group from a charging lion.
Quinn Swales was killed by the big cat in the same Zimbabwean park where Cecil the lion was illegally hunted by an American dentist last month.
The 40-year-old was tracking lions with a tour party during a dawn safari when they were suddenly targeted by the large male.
According to statement from the camp where he worked, the professional guide 'did everything he could to successfully protect his guests and ensure their safety' during the attack.
No one else was hurt in the unexpected incident which took place this morning in Hwange National Park, western Zimbabwe......
......In a recent review Mr Swales was described as being a 'fantastic guide, incredibly knowledgeable and very personable'.
A keen photographer himself, he had a picture of Cecil, the park's most famous lion as his Facebook cover photo....

Rest in peace, brave Sir.
May God ease the pain of his loved ones.
As far as I have determined Cecil wasn’t illegally hunted.
Dead human being - the world yawns.
Dead lion - the world p*sses itself.
Go figure.
That caught my eye too.
I don’t like the idea of killing a lion for sport.
Killing for food is perfectly fine.
That said, it was, after all, Just a Cat.
Everyone calm down.
This is terrible! Why, oh why, couldn’t Cecil’s brother have bagged a reporter? Or at least snacked on a couple of tourists.
BTW, Is Mugabe’s gooberment going to do anything to this lion?
I don’t like the idea of knocking over wooden pins with a big ball, but no one gives a sh*t.
Maybe the news of this guys death shouldn’t be about a dentist that went hunting. Except for the title this article is more about Cecil than him.
Sad “journalism” here
he was. he was a radio-collared animal. killing him was illegal.
They were outside the park, the dentist had a lion permit. Unless there is a technicality over the actual farm they were on and permitting, the only other thing I can think of is that Cecil had a radio collar on (which someone tried to destroy after the lion died); IIRC they are not supposed to hunt the collared animals.
And he was not taken on the reserve.
Compare that with the French rail workers response to the armed mohammedan on their train.
I assume the guide was black?
Do black lives matter in this context?

Was the veteran guide armed? Did he not carry a rifle? A pistol? If not how is that doing everything he could?
How have you made that determination?
I’d like to know more about that...haven’t researched it deeply, but I know that the PH and the hunter were both immediately kicked out of SCI. They are very good at promoting ethical/fair chase hunting and conservation. So they thought something was wrong about it. But I don’t know enough details to comment except to say that I trust Safari Club International....if you can find out more details, and can post them, I’d sure be interested in knowing more....
