Presidential candidate Donald Trump hosted an event last night in Alabama that saw between 18,000 and 20,000-plus people in attendance.
Roll tide, apparently.
During his speech, the Donald mentioned how he is a big fan of Oreo cookies, but will refuse to ever eat them again since Nabisco plans on moving to Mexico.
From The Blaze:
You know, Mexico is the new China, Trump told the crowd, referencing the recent decision by Nabisco to move its factories there.
I love Oreos. Ill never eat them again. Okay? Ill never eat them again, Trump said. No, Nabisco closes the plant, they just announced a couple of days ago, in Chicago and they are moving the plant to Mexico. Now, why?
I dont blame China. I respect them, Trump said. Im not angry at them. Im angry at our leaders for being so stupid. Im not angry at China.
Oreos more specifically, Nabisco caused the ire of the billionaire presidential contender after the company announced its decision not to invest the $130 million for a factory upgrade and will move production across the countys southern border into Mexico. Nabisco also recently shut down its Philadelphia factory in an effort to expand factories in Virginia and New Jersey, although union members believe their jobs will eventually be outsourced to Mexico as well.
You know things are bad when American workers fear losing their jobs to outsourcing in order for the company to employ cheap laborers.
Hes not wrong about China. What the communist nation is doing is capitalizing on the weakness of current American leaders. Theyre taking advantage of a flaw in our highly liberal system that disincentivizes making money.
What would be great about a Trump presidency is that he will not kowtow to any foreign land, and will always put the American people first. There wont be an Obama-like Middle East apology tour under Trump, thats for certain.
I will gladly pay more for an Oreo made in the USA. So what if sugar is a little more expensive.
Outsourcing is a problem, but at least the Mexicans who take these jobs will still be in Mexico.
Only 10% of the manufacturing work force is unionized. that’s it. You are fight the last war. Get up to speed.
How can a business make it in America if the govt taxes much of their profit?
A tariff is a tax and not very Conservative but then Trump did donate to hitlery so guess he should be boycotted for that!
Wow - All this just to screw the Union?
Here all along I thought is all about the price of SUGAR due to the Sugar lobby. Just like Hershey’s move to Mexico.
We pay over 2X the price for real sugar due to the Depression-era protection scheme for a few very rich/fat cat sugar daddies....
Nabisco moved production of Mallomars, the world’s greatest Cookie ever, to Canada from New York (I believe) years ago. I don’t remember them saying it was because of the price of Sugar when that happened.
Nabisco moved Production out of CA a while ago. I used to drive by their building next to the 5 Freeway on my way to work. The building was an Icon, now it’s gone.
Funding the government with tariffs, as opposed to income taxes, is very American, and very conservative. All the founding fathers were protectionist and favored tariffs.
Not that Im against Trump, but I thought Oreos were banned by Obama mama jamies because of the trans fat?
No, they were banned because it hit too close to home.
Short Nabisco stock, sales will plummet.
Never liked Oreos.
But if you take some good dark chocolate, chocolate chip cookies, and put them on the broiler rack at the broiler setting, and deliberately incinerate them until the edges smoke, then the oven door quickly opened, you scoop the smoking conflagration into a mixing bowl with 1/2 gal of French vanilla bean vanilla ice cream where the cookies disappear with a hiss into the vanilla bean streaked milky bergs of ultimate caloric heavenly annihilation. This serves only one, because if your mood has driven you to a dessert like this, someone might lose a finger.
I only survived this dessert twice. If anything happens to Donald Trump, the third time will be my seppuku for the honor of my Shogun ;)
tariffs are the solution.
I have to wonder if Nabisco has looked into this little item, as it was stated, AFTER the equipment was there in Mexico, Samsonite found out it wasn't THEIR equipment....
To the extreme.
I loof dise tangz. But ey canat eet dim animoor.
higher taxes is not the solution
Our government has made it too hard and too expensive to do business in this country, that is what needs to be changed
Is Chicago still America?
Must we worry about chicago jobs?
I don’t
I saw a TV series about you.
Everybody, raise your hand if you think the price of Oreo’s will go down once they move that factory to Mexico?
Maybe Celine Dion will intervene and let you tooch dese tings.
