MOBILE, Alabama (CNN) Donald Trump brought 30,000 supporters from deep red Alabama to a Friday night pep rally in a football stadium, the latest sign that the Republican front-runner has broad, nationwide strength.
The event was previously planned to be held at the nearby Civic Center but was moved to the 43,000-seat Ladd-Peebles Stadium -- a venue normally home to high school football games -- to accommodate the crowd. The City of Mobile confirmed late Friday that 30,000 people attended.
"It was one of the greatest events Mobile ever put on aside from Mardi Gras," said Colby Cooper, Mayor Sandy Stimpson's chief of staff.
Trump -- whose victory in national and early-state polls is no longer a surprise -- has in recent weeks taken steps to quickly professionalize his political operation.
Brent Fritz and Jacob Murray, 19-year-old students from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, drove in Friday morning to see Trump. They left at 4 a.m. ET and arrived around noon local time.
The first person to get in line was retired Marine Keith Quackenbush.
"This isn't about Republicans, it isn't about Democrats, this is a movement of citizens across America tired of the BS," he said.
Amanda Mancini, who said she is part of a new movement called "Women for Trump," flew in from Los Angeles. "I wanted to be part of it. I initially thought it was going to be small, band I thought Trump wouldn't be coming to me in California, so I would have to come to him."
Over an hour of often rambling remarks, the New York businessman reveled in the crowd size while he offered them his usual menu of patriotic pledges and carefree criticism of the media, his opponents and political correctness that he said his crowd similarly despised.

Cnn was originally saying like 15000 and were ripping him for such a low turnout. They started ripping the turnout over an hour before the event.
Crappy cnn should rip Hillary for her pittance of a crowd and most those were propably the press.
Did Huma pack the crowd with her extended family of Muslim Brotherhood agents?
I think when he focuses on the incompetence of the Iran deal and the Bergdahl deal he strikes gold. But I don’t think anyone cares about “trade deals.” Trump’s been rambling about the exact same thing as far back as the Letterman show in the ‘80s and it wasn’t the kind of issue anyone cared about then either.
Article says “The city of Mobile confirmed late Friday that 30,000 people attended.”
At least some were probably paid fainters to swoon at the first words of Satan’s Prom Queen
The bums just HAD to remind us that Alabama is “deep red”. Don’t worry, Pajama Boys, Trump will fill up Met Life Stadium and Yankee Stadium too, when he gets there! Be afraid, be very afraid!!!/s;)
I was there...I’m not a good head counter...but i know at least 20,000 were there......maybe 25,000.....It was a rockin’ night.....Trump was cool as a cucumber. This venue change 3 times since just Monday when Trump says he was coming here....Rain was a threat and so was the heat...it was a blast!
Trump payed for it all too...80% took a shuttle bus from Hank Aaron stadium just like me and my wife.... we rode on an old school bus back to our car...people had a hell of a time...Trump is a Rock Star!
Out of misfortune...I will say...the ride to the stadium was in a plush trailways bus....we just took what we could get in order to egt back to our car...the stadium parking was FULL...Trump paid for every cops overtime and the whole bit.....just so you know...it was a Hoot when his plane flew oever the stadium and tipped its wings...he landed at 1755....EXACTLY when he said he would...Precision and excellence!
Thousands more have and will watch the speech on YouTube as well.
Revised attendance number is 40,000.
That tells how many were expected, 40,000. Not how many actually did attend.
35,000 the Ap is reporting....at any rate he had to change venues three times because so many tickets were going so fast....so no matter how many...20,000 to 40,000...it took a stadium to handle the lot of them.
35,000?
Huh.
Couldn’t fill the venue.
Proves he’s on the downhill side of the peak.
Guess I’ll have start using the /s again.
Hehe.
I think they do in areas where people who can't find decent jobs had parents and grandparents who did very well with manufacturing jobs. Around here it's totally understood that not enough is being done to protect US manufacturing jobs and the management jobs that are associated with them.
Surprising that the headline isn’t “Trump speaks to 5000 empty seats”
2800 for sanders and the comments were “they came from miles around” funny!
