I just finished watching a streaming video of Trump's rally in Alabama. And I gotta tell you, the guy spoke like Reagan would. Trump doesn't quite have Reagan's sense of humor, but otherwise, yep, Trump reminds me of Reagan.
go watch a few Reagan speeches to understand what i mean
Oh, I don't know why not. To the extent such things can be determined, Trump's numbers are better than anyone else's. Sure, a sea-change is possible, but no matter how you slice it, Trump has the inertia at double his closest competitor right now. That won't be overcome by wishful thinking.
Further, you need do nothing more than compare number of Trump as opposed to Cruz threads, number of responses, and number of favorable vs. unfavorable posts to see which way the FR winds are blowing.
Finally, there aren't very many FReepers longer-time than myself, and my position is exactly the same as JimRob's, so FR pedigree isn't much of an issue.
I understand exactly what you mean. I also know "inspiration" is not restricted to a single means of generation.
When the field of Cruz, Walker, Rubio, Jindal, Huckabee, et al.--when some of those candidates start to drop out, where will their supporters go? I don't think Trump will get the majority of them. And so the numbers for the remaining non-Trump candidate(s) will likely rise accordingly.
Further, you need do nothing more than compare number of Trump as opposed to Cruz threads, number of responses, and number of favorable vs. unfavorable posts to see which way the FR winds are blowing.
Looking back, I could say the same thing in regard to threads and posts about President Palin or President Gingrich.
I can't think of many cases where supporters, deprived of their first choice, coalesce around another underdog in a decisive fashion.
Looking back, I could say the same thing in regard to threads and posts about President Palin or President Gingrich.
Which says nothing to invalidate my point about the FR winds....
I’m still not getting the hostility towards Trump. Basically all I’m hearing is he is not a real conservative yet he is the one who made illegal i.migration front and center as an issue. Remember without Trump, Jeb Bush would now be the frontrunner so imagine how DEPPRESSING that prospect would have been. ALso Trump is fine with Jeff Sessions who wore Trump’s hat at the rally.
That makes any discussion just an exercise in stroking your ego.
If I even had an ego.. I would have ignored YOU..
WAIT!... I’m feeling something...
He's spoken up strongly on one issue. Good for him. But he's spoken **poorly**, both in the past and in the present, on a number of other issues: e.g., homosexual "marriage," religious liberty, and the Supreme Court's violations of the First and Tenth Amendments of the Constitution. Then there's what I see as his lack of personal character. And he comes across to me as a blowhard egomaniac.
And 40,000 Southerners to hear a New Yorker?
Many of us at the rally mentioned that....We southerners like a few hells and damns in a speech...straight talk...We like Trump...and he liked us. Our old mayor of Mobile said “ There is only one Donald Trump”....he was here many years back on a reconstruction project of an old building...Trump backed out with good reason...We understood and respected him back then...it was the right move....Art of the Deal.
Good post
What a coincidence! I must not have a sense of humor. Perhaps you could explain your response.
I figure it has to be some sort of joke, which of course I wouldn't "get." Otherwise, it would have made some sense.
John Roberts on FNC said maybe 15,000 were there.
BS
agree!
You realize that appealing to the number of peers is a classic leftwing propaganda technique, right? Even trying that argument tells us a lot about your mindset, because typically conservatives are not group-thinkers and are accustomed to being outnumbered and fighting alone, while liberals hold being a member of the herd in high esteem. So accustomed are we conservatives to fighting alone, that we should be extra cautious and reassess our position if we ever find ourselves on the popular side of an issue, rather than take heart in finding that we are running with the crowd.
That so many are not being cautious at all, but are falling for it hook, line and sinker - is not totally surprising because as history has shown us many times that a desperate and humiliated population of any nationality will eagerly follow the first thing that says what they want to hear - it's "any port in a storm." Instead they should heed their mom's advice that if it's too good to be true, its a scam.
That some demand perfection of every other candidate running but go to great lengths to excuse every fault of their idol, is an indication of a cult, not a campaign, and arguing with cultists is usually a waste of time, after a while people just avoid cultists, and this absence of opposition unfortunately tends to reinforce rather than dissuade the true believers.
Those of us who opposed Obama were "out of the prevailing opinions" of the entire world. So what? And we were right about Obama being an enemy of the United States- in spite of his popularity and his Teflon coating.
He’s hated by the GOP establishment like Reagan was. He’s talking about things the GOP establishment does not want talked about but the people do want addressed.
I don’t think so. Without Trump posing as the “conservative” one of the other conservative candidates would be frontrunner. Ask yourself, as a Trumpie, if you would support Jeb if Trump wasn’t running? You know you wouldn’t. So why would you think Jeb would be frontrunner, as if all Trump’s supporters would join Jeb’s bandwagon instead of someone else’s? Would all of us out here craving the idea of ripping the RINOs new arseholes suddenly choose a RINO if we couldn’t pick Trump? Of course not.
Trump’s there to kill off the most conservative candidates... think of him as the DNC’s insurance policy if Hillary collapses.
My local station said - 30,000 minimum
Proving they’re not shilling for the DemocRATS.
Lack of character? On his deathbed his alchoholic brother Fred told Donald not to drink and ever since he hasn’t touched a drop. He then went on to build a real estate empire via hard work and a brilliant mind.

Yes, but it is also a valid technique. That's not to say it can't be abused by citing the opinion of a misinformed majority.
It is another iteration of the "reasonable man" standard, which has long been a recognized standard in our legal system.
My contention is that among Republican voters interested in the race at this early stage, and FreeRepublic members, arguably as much or more politically sophisticated than the previous group, ranking Trump at the bottom is wildly out of step.
