I just finished watching a streaming video of Trump's rally in Alabama. And I gotta tell you, the guy spoke like Reagan would. Trump doesn't quite have Reagan's sense of humor, but otherwise, yep, Trump reminds me of Reagan.
No, but saying it after accurately stating the problem, IS.
Do You? Do you think Trump would have gone for Reagan's immigration "deal?"
Some of us do remember him. He got swindled on Amnesty, he put Sandra Dee on the Court back when he could have gotten Bork on...given the Senate majority he had at that time, but not later, when he tried to get Bork on. I also didn’t appreciate him doubling the Social Security earnings cap.
Reagan missed opportunities, I don’t think Trump will.

But you're comparing Trump's best point to Reagan's worst.
You have to look at the complete picture.
Reagan understood conservatism through and through. Trump's understanding, or what anyone can make of it, seems superficial.
And Reagan had better communication skills. Yes, he did.
Trump attacks the media more aggressively than Reagan, but remember that there was no significant conservative talk radio at the time and no internet.
People are latching onto Donald for good reasons: his outspokenness, his immigration stance, and the desire to "make America great." But this platform is a mile wide and an inch deep.
There may be more to Trump, but I need to see it. And even if he does eventually begin speaking with a solid understanding of conservatism, why would I prefer him to a man like Cruz?
Listen carefully to Trump's speeches or read a transcript. He's all over the place like an air hockey puck.
Reagan was always focused.

I know I don't have to tell you the greater part of wisdom is knowing what to ignore as superfluous, but perhaps a reminder is in order.

That's why it's called a platform. In any negotiations, which Trump knows he's going to engage in, flexibility is inversely proportional to what the other side knows of your position.
Do you want him to make you comfy, or utilize his proven ability to "get it done?"

Again, his forte is accomplishment, not oratory.

What has Donald accomplished aside from real estate development?
How does this translate to presidential skills?
There are countless successful businessmen who would be terrible presidents, like Bezos, Zuckerburg and Gates.
My deep respect for you prevents me from posting a picture from "Silverado" where the Sheriff, none too gently, tells his deputy "He's hit everything he's aimed at!"
I dare say his experience from working with the "establishment" gives him a much better grasp of "presidential skills" than your qualifications to evaluate same.
Everybody like me who looked into it saw some fraud, but numerous mistakes like “BREAKING: St. Lucie County, Florida Had 141.1% Turnout..." In reality St. Lucie had 70% turnout. It was tiring to keep debunking the same junk over and over. On the flip side the black precincts with 100% Obama votes (all of them had less than 100% turnout) are evidence of some fraud but also likely intimidation. Those places are lost.
Cutting federal government and cutting corporate taxes. The first is a necessary not sufficient step to restoring morality. The second will restore the economy. We don't need a president with more skills than that a few more would be gravy. Even with those two, we may still be beyond repair.
Keep in mind that without Trump, Jeb Bush would now be the frontrunner with illegal immigration as an issue on the backburner.
Take any 10 speeches by Reagan, and count the number of times the words I and me are used.
Then listen to Trump for a minute or two.
No, Trump is not the next Reagan.
Trump takes individual credit, where Reagan transferred ownership of American exceptionalism to us, the people. We made America great again under Reagan. This time it seems to be all about Trump.

You are answering a different question. I responded to the question, is trump the next Reagan. I answered, with my reasoning, in the negative.

I did not answer a question, I expressed an opinion.
Keep in mind that there are fifteen candidates other than Trump or Bush in the field, several of whom I could support. For me, Trump is at the bottom of the list, at best tied for last.
Reagan was his own man. There are plenty more similar to him, but they, too, deserve to be judged individually.

Which is fine, but recognize that puts you out of the prevailing opinions of both Republican voters, and FR posters; which is also fine.
Hopefully, you will not join the camp of posters castigating other FReepers for not agreeing with you.
I wouldn't be too sure of that. First of all, there haven't been any Republican votes yet. We're still a long way away from the first primaries and caucuses. And the polling right now doesn't mean much, what with seventeen candidates in the mix. Plus, Trump has the celebrity/name recognition thing going for him now, which doesn't impress me.
As for FR posters, there are many of us long-time conservatives here who do not trust Trump and do not support him and have not gotten on the bandwagon. I do not see a "prevailing opinion" here for Trump.
Trump's past and present liberal positions, plus his off-putting character, cause me to put him at the bottom of the list.
