Which is fine, but recognize that puts you out of the prevailing opinions of both Republican voters, and FR posters; which is also fine.
Hopefully, you will not join the camp of posters castigating other FReepers for not agreeing with you.
I wouldn't be too sure of that. First of all, there haven't been any Republican votes yet. We're still a long way away from the first primaries and caucuses. And the polling right now doesn't mean much, what with seventeen candidates in the mix. Plus, Trump has the celebrity/name recognition thing going for him now, which doesn't impress me.
As for FR posters, there are many of us long-time conservatives here who do not trust Trump and do not support him and have not gotten on the bandwagon. I do not see a "prevailing opinion" here for Trump.
Trump's past and present liberal positions, plus his off-putting character, cause me to put him at the bottom of the list.
You realize that appealing to the number of peers is a classic leftwing propaganda technique, right? Even trying that argument tells us a lot about your mindset, because typically conservatives are not group-thinkers and are accustomed to being outnumbered and fighting alone, while liberals hold being a member of the herd in high esteem. So accustomed are we conservatives to fighting alone, that we should be extra cautious and reassess our position if we ever find ourselves on the popular side of an issue, rather than take heart in finding that we are running with the crowd.
That so many are not being cautious at all, but are falling for it hook, line and sinker - is not totally surprising because as history has shown us many times that a desperate and humiliated population of any nationality will eagerly follow the first thing that says what they want to hear - it's "any port in a storm." Instead they should heed their mom's advice that if it's too good to be true, its a scam.
That some demand perfection of every other candidate running but go to great lengths to excuse every fault of their idol, is an indication of a cult, not a campaign, and arguing with cultists is usually a waste of time, after a while people just avoid cultists, and this absence of opposition unfortunately tends to reinforce rather than dissuade the true believers.
Those of us who opposed Obama were "out of the prevailing opinions" of the entire world. So what? And we were right about Obama being an enemy of the United States- in spite of his popularity and his Teflon coating.
