Detroit — Most Buick vehicles sold in the United States after 2016 could be imported from China and Europe, according to two sources familiar with parent General Motors Co’s plans. Only two of Buick’s future US models, replacements for the mid-size LaCrosse sedan and the large Enclave crossover, are expected to be built in North America, according to the sources, who did not want to be identified because their companies work with GM. (Snip) Buick is planning to shift production of the compact Verano sedan from Michigan to China in late 2016, the sources said. Production of the

I think it all goes back to Clinton’s so-called “negotiations” with China for WTO Entry.

China was allowed to maintain significant and high duties on autos and parts, gradually dropping, but reaching a minimum level still much higher than the United States. I wondered at the time why any difference at all was acceptable. It played right into mercantilist China’s hands.

“Interesting. Buicks seem to be more popular in the PR of China based on trips I’ve taken there over the last decade or so.”

Since GM is government owned it would be only fitting to
sign over some of it’s assets to resolve foreign debt.
I’d say sell GM to China and save us from having to bail the bums
out, again, later on. GM doesn’t deserve to be in business
in this country. They are nothing more than a government
subsidized work program for the over paid and unemployable.

Buick, worst American car made. My sister bought one, barely got two years out of it when everything fell apart. Badly made.

General Motors is not the only manufacturer doing that. They’re all doing it.

They should sell the Buick GL8 here. A minivan very popular in China, rode in two when in China last year. One had a touch screen navigation system.

ONLY if they were then forced into bankruptcy, to then pay back creditors....

Trump: Rescue Big 3, but Then Its Bankruptcy

The U.S. government should proceed with the proposed bailout of the Big Three automakers, but a key condition of funding should include a massive reorganization through Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, business magnate Donald Trump says.

Trump on Wednesday said a combined bailout and bankruptcy would restore consumer confidence in the carmakers and allow Detroit to pay its creditors, which will boost the U.S. economy. The survival of General Motors, Ford and Chrysler is important to the long-term health of the United States, Trump told CNBC....

.....”If you look at the airlines, I mean, I’d rather buy a car than fly in an airline that is in Chapter 11,” said Trump.

“When Delta went, when United went, and so many others, people didn’t stop flying. In fact, I think their business went up. As long as they know the company is going to exist, people will continue to fly. You sit there as long as it takes to get wonderful union contracts and wonderful contracts with your suppliers and everyone else.”

My Buick Lucerne has been the best car I’ve ever owned.
But if they start making them in China, it’s my last one.

They have been for several years, but only for sales in China and the Far East. I Chinese Buicks are accepted here, that will be the green light to send over Cadirracs.

I’ll never buy one. With all the poisons and foreign matter they’ve put into other stuff from there, I would think the interior of one of their cars would be toxic just to sit in and breathe the fumes.
