Small businesses are already struggling to survive the spate of minimum wage increases to $15 per hour in parts of California.
Last month, the small Bay Area town of Emeryville, California, (population 10,000) decided to act as flag-bearer for raising the minimum wage in California, hiking its minimum wage to $14.44 per hour.
Even though businesses with less than 56 workers are exempt from the $14.44 rate and do not have to raise their wages to $15 until 2018, Vic Gumper, who owns Lanesplitter Pizza, with outlets in Berkeley, Oakland, Albany and Emeryville, decided not only to bite the bullet but swallow it, paying his workers $15 to $25 an hour while eschewing tips or raising prices.

incorrect
people in the US not working but on typical govt benefits are in the top 20% of worldwide incomes
...Sales at Gumpers locations have plunged 25% in the last few months, forcing Gumpers to close during lunch hours at some locations....
A food eatery is closing during lunch hours???
Everything libs touch seems to backfire.
Just think of the money he could save if he were closed 24/7!
I worked at the state unemployment office for almost 20 years. I guarantee you that employers pay the UI tax. Ask any employer here at FR.
He should have shut down his pizza parlors in Berkeley, Oakland, Albany and Emeryville and moved them to Texas.....
to Tyler, Marshall, Weatherford and Longview.
Yep, he's really helping them by closing at lunch and reducing their total hours worked. Let me see...would that affect their take-home pay? Typical deep thinking Liberal.
Looks like it to me.

I think your comment was correct circa 1900.
You really need to look at that link I posted.
Employees can make ‘more’ with tipping then without as this guy stopped tipping.
The knit hat looks sterile. I wonder if his forearms are hairy.
What is with these hipsters wearing those stupid looking knit caps ALL THE TIME? Seems like you would roast in one during the summer. Plus, they look stupid. Did I mention that they look stupid?
On welfare...it’s $25 a day which is some $9,000 a year. And that is an income that puts people into the top 20% of all “Global” incomes....imagine that the average welfare payment alone in the US puts people into the top 20% of all global income earners!!!

Fascism and socialism are te same thing. Just under fascism govt and business pretend businesses still are privately owned.
The feds dont have the constitutional authority to set hourly pay rate where intrastate commerce is concerned.
On the other hand, the states have never amended the Constitution to expressly prohibit themselves from setting hourly pay rate.
Such economic morons...
“”””If you think employers pay for an any employee related expense or benefit, I have a really nice bridge in the south part of Manhattan Island I’d love you to meet with my realtor to have a look at... “””””
I have been an employer for 40 years. You don’t know what you are talking about.
Repeal the min wage laws. Call it the Full Employment Act.
My Mother and I were just talking about how my grandparents came here in ‘57 and made .90 and .80 per hour and managed to buy a house and pay it off, implying that people today just don’t save( kind of true) I reminded her that my dad drove grandpa to work and grandma walked to work at the hospital, milk was $1 a gallon, ground beef .30 a pound, bread .20, eggs .55. We may have seen increases in wages but hell even I remember brand new cars for under $3000!
And a $15 surcharge on frozen pizza you buy at a store.
