The two female Ranger students left in Ranger School will be the first women to ever graduate from the grueling course Friday.
Out of a total of 19 initial female students, two women will graduate come Friday at Fort Benning, Ga., and be allowed to wear the Ranger Tab, though because gender integration is still in the experimental phase, these women will not join the 75th Ranger Regiment, The Washington Post reports.
After a quick, first assessment, the 19 female hopefuls were chopped down to just eight female students. All eight then proceeded to fail the Darby Phase twice. The Army then gave three of the students an opportunity to start over from the beginning. This recycle is only granted occasionally.
Students moved through the Darby Phase, the Mountain Phase, and then finally to the Swamp Phase in Florida near Eglin Air Force Base, where 40 students and four instructors were placed in the hospital after being struck by lightning.
Congratulations to all of our new Rangers. Each Ranger School graduate has shown the physical and mental toughness to successfully lead organizations at any level, Secretary of the Army John McHugh said in a statement. This course has proven that every Soldier, regardless of gender, can achieve his or her full potential. We owe Soldiers the opportunity to serve successfully in any position where they are qualified and capable, and we continue to look for ways to select, train, and retain the best Soldiers to meet our Nations needs.
According to a senior Army official, both of the women are also graduates of West Point, the U.S. military school based in New York.
Ranger School has a 40 percent graduation rate

There will never be equality between the sexes in this country until every female between the ages of 18 to 55 is forced to register with the Selective Service.
Then, 800 females will be drafted to form an Infantry battalion. There will be no deferments for pregnancy, children, marriage, physical fitness or being overweight.
All will receive Basic Training and Infantry training. There will be no failures or recycles. They will receive the training.
Then, they will be shipped to Afghanistan to fight. They will spend one year engaging the enemy in close combat.
Anything else is politically correct bullshit.
There is no point other than political correctness.
I don’t think you should be making disparaging remarks about circumstances you know nothing about.
You would be wrong.
Getting reports they did well. Note that one of the three still failed.
From what I am told they took honest notes from their recycle, and improved in every phase.
The army community, for the most part, has no interest in anyone handed a tab.
On the other hand, they are prepared to celebrate those who earn it.
Reports are these ladies earned it.
No special scoring tables, no slack given by their male compatriots.
Some will still gripe, but for the most part this is seen as doing it the hard way and doing it the right way.
Well, either they passed the course or they didn’t.
If they passed, then let them join the regiment.
BINGO!
Our main lightning strikes came during the mountain phase...I guess they figured they could get us closer to the clouds.....
And you do?
Why would you make disparaging remarks about women who do?
Don’t know what year you went through, but it was still out on the point when I was there.
The girls I trained always passed, every last one of them, first time out. Men too for that matter. Why? I took them out at 5 and ran the seawall, hit the bridge, joined the course half way through, circled the point, and then did the first half on the way back.
Learning to do the obstacles tired and steady made them easy come test time. Everyone did the men’s course by the way, and my girls would literally laugh at the others who couldn’t handle such an easy course.
This is all PC bs.
Not everyone that goes to Ranger school serves in a Ranger Regiment.
It’s not the mind, it’s the body. I don’t see how the female body can endure and express the same level of power, endurance, strength, that the male body can. And with SOCOM, that’s a very big deal. So how is it equalized?
What does it matter? Women are not physically athletic as men, otherwise we would have them in the NFL, NBA, and there would be no women’s tennis or golf. Right?
In my current old decrepit health, I am positive these women would kick my rear, butt not in my youth.
I have no idea what you really know but what you said is incorrect. It has to be.
You see the Rangers, Air Force PJs, Seals, Delta Force etc, are the very best of the best. The very best of the best men.
You obviously have no idea of the performance differences between the very best women and the best men. It is not just a little bit. It is day and night.
As I mentioned before, I attended college on scholarship. I was not the fastest sprinter on our team but I could run a 10.4 hundred meters and that is electrically timed. I could easily have beaten the fastest woman in the world.
Do you not understand how much that differs from what you see on TV and in the Movies? We had another guy, James Batie who on a given day, beat the world record holder. I once saw him do it.
James would have been able to beat the best woman and run along beside her pointing his finger at her then speed up and beat her easily.
The same thing applies to other events such as weightlifting. Throwing the discus, putting the shot and on and on.
The difference is so great that a very good, well excellent high school boy can beat the women’s world record in most events.
I think Congress still has a law in place that forbids women from serving in front line units.
I graduated in 1981.
The O-course was not hard, but a large number of women had difficulty. Additionally, the course was timed and scored differently for men and women.
Ref “If they passed selection, put them in the Regiment. They wanted it, they should get it.”
Having a Ranger Tab is a bare minimum qualification for an officer to get into the Ranger Regiment. I don’t know the exact percentages/numbers, but probably only about 2 to 5% of the officers who graduate Ranger School get into the Regiment. The rest of us spent our careers spreading the Ranger virus across the Army.
