Donald Trump told host Chuck Todd of Meet the Press that he would deport all illegal aliens if he were elected president. “They have to go,” he told Todd.
“We’re going to keep the families together, but they have to go,” he said in the interview, which will air in full on NBC’s “Meet the Press” this Sunday.
Pressed on what he’d do if the immigrants in question had nowhere to return to, Trump reiterated: “They have to go.”
“We will work with them. They have to go. Chuck, we either have a country, or we don’t have a country,” he said.
Speaking on Trump’s gilded private plane as it idled on a runway in Des Moines, Iowa, the real-estate mogul and Republican presidential frontrunner offered the first outlines of the immigration policy proposals he’d implement from the Oval Office.
Trump said, to begin, “we have to” rescind Obama’s executive order offering those brought to the U.S. illegally as children known as DREAMers protection from deportation, as well as Obama’s unilateral move to delay deportation for their families as well.
“We have to make a whole new set of standards” for those immigrating to the US.
The comments are certain to further inflame already fierce opposition from Latino activists and advocacy groups. They’ve been critical of Trump’s candidacy from the start, when he kicked off his campaign with a speech that accused Mexico of sending “criminals” and “rapists” to the U.S.
Trump was hazy on the details of his deportation plan. Presumably it would be legal, which means amending the Constitution to make it possible to deport so-called “anchor babies” — children born in the U.S. of illegal parents. Either that, or simply allow anchor-baby families to remain in the U.S. and grant them legal status.
Somehow, I doubt he would employ that option.
Then, there is the due process that illegal aliens have a right to, according to the law. They can’t be deported without it, and with 11 million court cases coming, he might want to think of increasing the number of immigration judges by a factor of about a thousand. Or perhaps we could change the law and deny illegals due process.
Of course, we’d have to round them all up to deport them. “Papers, please” will become an American catchword in the near future if Trump wins. And where would we keep them all? Jails are already seriously overcrowded so maybe we can build some “camps” — you know, like all totalitarian regimes have — to keep the illegals penned up until their hearing.
Repealing Obama’s executive orders are fine, although there would be a court challenge on behalf of DREAMers because they’ve already been given legal status. Other steps that could be taken include putting some teeth in employer sanctions for hiring illegals, and making it much harder for cities to defy immigration law so that ICE can deport criminals.
As for the rest of the 11 million illegals, Trump is right. “We either have a country or we don’t have a country.” It’s just that Trump’s idea of what America is and what it stands for is as alien as any illegal who jumps the border.
The Constitution DOES NOT say "anyone born in the USA is a citizen"
It says "anyone born in the USA AND UNDER THE LAWS AND JURISDICTIONS OF, is a citizen" (forgive me if i don't have it exact)
That is clearly NOT THE SAME as "anyone born here is a citizen"
Clearly anyone who rushed to the USA to give birth just to claim citizenship was not the intention of the framers, or they would not have included that cause.
Just STOP treating them as citizens. Announce that it will be his administration policy to more correctly interpret the constitution that way, and order everyone NOT TO give out USA birth certificates to anyone who cannot prove they are here legally.
AND announce that he will strictly follow ALL immigration laws that Mexico has. (that will make liberals' heads explode)
Very simple, start throwing employers and landlords in jail and they will self deport by the millions.
‘What are the logistics of implementing this?’
What is the logic of not implementing this?
TWB
We should have been worrying about cost & logistics 45 years ago!
Deport one and 100 go home on their own. World gets around the illegal community fast.
“If there are no benefits to being an illegal then the illegals will self-deport. “
Stop welfare and fine any employers using illegals.
My wife’s SIL is in the restaurant business. When one of their restaurants was nailed, they shaped up in a hurry.
great point
What's impossible it rooting out these federal workers from a paycheck and the illegal because they can be scared to vote for whoever keeps the good stuff coming.
True. Mexico has a wonderful culture. Sending back Mexicans will save the extended Mexican family, the cultural jewel of the Americas!
” In essence pay state and local goverments for every illegal alien they capture and turn over to the IRS.”
INS?
That is the problem. INS will just release them to await their ‘due process’.
Change hiring an illegal alien from a misdemeanor to a class 3 felony. Problem fixed.
“What are the logistics for doing this?” I dunno...what were the logistics of how they got here?
I’ll tell you the logistics of sending them back; make so they WANT to leave. Deprive them of employment and all government benefits. Declare them ineligible for every form of public assistance, assess a tax liability on every employer who hires illegals at twice the minimum wage rate for payroll taxes. And enforce it.
Do that, and they’ll leave.
INS will deport them under the law. The IRS should auti them for everything they’ve done first then charge them a ‘tax’ for crossing our boards illegally.
You arrest a couple hundred of them confiscate all that they have gained while illegal then shove them back across the border then sit back and watch the rest of them leave. Then hire some welfare scabs to do the jobs that they vacated. Refuse to work no welfare.
What are the logistics of implementing this?
Get a truck.
Load it up.
Drive to Border.
Dump.
Repeat above until finished.
It appears most FReepers on this thread have come up with the same idea.
Make them WANT to leave.
The fine on people who employ illegals should start at $100,000 per instance and go up from there for each new series of violations.
And corporate executives should be held personally liable for the actions of their companies so as to prevent the likes of Wal Mart from hiring contractors who hire illegals to get around employment laws.
Trump’s plan to impound transfer payments to Mexico will go along way towards getting most of them to go home as there only here for the money not because they want to say.
You make it very difficult to impossible for them to send that money back to their home country untaxed at extraordinary rates they may just take a job back home.
