Trump says he will spend $1 billion on campaign if necessary
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/15/15 | Joseph Lawler

Posted on 08/15/2015 12:07:06 PM PDT by markomalley

Billionaire and Republican candidate Donald Trump said Saturday that he would spend $1 billion on his presidential campaign, if necessary, to win the White House.

Asked by a reporter at the Iowa State Fair if he would spend that sum on his campaign, Trump replied "Yes ... if I had to."

Trump afterward ended the short press conference to take children at the fair aboard his helicopter.

The brash candidate, who leads Republicans in recent polls, said that a budget for his campaign was "irrelevant."

"I make 400 million a year so what difference does it make," Trump said.

Instead of worrying about the cost of the campaign, he added, "my whole focus will be this country and making it great again."

Trump has advertised his personal fortune to voters, saying that it places him beyond the influence of other billionaires seeking to advance special interests.

While he has repeatedly claimed a net worth of more than $10 billion, it is unclear what his true wealth is. Bloomberg News estimated his wealth at $2.9 billion, based on campaign disclosures.

If Trump were to advance beyond the Republican primary, it would likely take over a billion dollars to compete for the presidency. Both Mitt Romney and President Obama spent more than $1 billion in their campaigns in 2012.

I just realized yesterday he’s going to get a lot of Republican votes, and he’s going to get a lot of Democrat votes, and he’s probably going to win.

You don’t want Ted Nugent for Secretary of War? What can you be thinking? The psyops value alone, the man would be pure gold. Imagine him in his turkey feathered camo cowboy hat bowhunting after ISIS rapists with bacon wrapped around each broadhead ;)

Ted Cruz as Attorney General, then as Supreme Court Chief when it becomes available.

Consider the source; Bloomberg.

Trump sez he’s worth MORE THAN the $10 Billion he reported to the FEC. Guess whose word I’m going to take?

Honestly, today I cannot read any FReeper's mind. I have failed to break through the barriers on any FR threads today.

Please just tell me: You believe Bloomburg or you believe Trump. Thanks.

Can you imagine what a bizarre four-year ride it's going to be when President Trump cleans out the garbage in DC?

Wish I could believe you. The unionized bureaucracy will wear him down.

That thought you have posted warms my heart on a very hot day in Texas.

Almost like our idealized image of Teddy Roosevelt, populist though he was.

The though of Trump cleaning house and restoring our exceptionalism is almost enough to inspire me to hold on instead of shutting it down next year.

We all enjoy being around positive but pragmatic and practical people. I do not see Trump as a cowboy or hunter of course but I do see him as a little blind and a little reckless and that is a good thing. It keeps your opponents off balance.

This was a fun movie. It depicts the United States as it should be. “The Wind and the Lion” 1975

And finally, some may not like this, some may not think it is right but I don’t care, it is as I think it should be... you screw with us or our people and you get whacked. No itnetion of spreading democracy just stop what you are doing and until you do we are going to stand on top of you. The attitude of the staff is a reflection of the attitude of their management. Our management is a communist, socilaist, anti-American, white hating, muslim and the tyrrany we are living under shows it every day.

This the way things should be. We live peacefully, we take every opportunity we can get for our own, we play fairly, we expect others to do the same. When they don’t, we protect ourselves and our best interests.

.... bowhunting after ISIS rapists...

I watch Ted’s show - he’d do it, too! Since he’s not going after ‘sacred protein’ to put on the grill, he’d probably be fine with using some of his guns and his own Ted Nugent Ammunition to take out these particular animals.

He won't have to worry about spending $1b of his own money, especially if he gets the nomination as he'll then have the apparatus and resources of the Republican Party behind him and he's already getting donations now. Sure, he's rejecting the obvious "bribe money" from lobbyists but he'll bring in hundreds of millions in small donations from individuals.

When Trump got into this campaign back in June, I laughed along with everybody else. I'm not laughing now. Trump has been Reaganesque in New Hampshire and Iowa these last couple of days. He handles the press (and their tough questions) effortlessly with humor and guile.

I don't see how he can be stopped now.

Query: Is DT accepting donations personally or to a properly-registered committee?

It’s still my understanding Trump is self-funding only, although his business income is bolstered by the sale of Trump merchandise.

I’ve come around from laughing to thinking he could do it too.
But I’m still impressed by how difficult it will be to hold his coalition together as he has to get more and more specific on issues.
I also don’t think he can count on all that much support from the GOP organization. But OTOH GOP candidates may be begging him to campaign for him by then!

He’s certainly made things interesting.

Go here to donate. When you get to the landing page, the Donate link is in the upper right.

But before you can whip out your credit card, you will have to agree to these conditions:

By clicking "Contribute" I certify that the following statements are true and accurate: This contribution is made from my personal funds and is not drawn on an account maintained by a corporation, labor union, or national bank, and I am a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted permanent resident and this contribution will not be reimbursed by another person. $2,700 is the maximum amount an individual may give for the PRIMARY election to Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. $5,400 is the maximum amount a couple may give combined for the PRIMARY election to Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. If a joint contribution is made, both individuals must be listed as account holders or both must sign the check.

I was pretty impressed. I've never seen this on a campaign website before. I think I will do a post on this.

I stand corrected, I checked some of the other campaign websites and that same language is on them. So I’m thinking it’s mandatory.
