If you think he was a socialist then he was wrong hearted. Socialism/communism is responsible for more deaths in history second only to dying of old age.

Cancer is a disease of old age. We have cured so much of everything else that cancer seems more predominate.

Carter does indeed deserve a lot of credit for getting Reagan elected President. My first vote was against Carter and for Gerald Ford (I am that old). Ayn Rand said some things about Jimmy Carter that convinced me to vote for Gerald Ford.

As we age, our immune system, which has to destroy cancer cells and thousands of other pathogens daily, weakens. Cancer should come as no surprise if one lives to 80 or 90. We all die of something.

My mother will be 95 in November, her only problem seems to be debilitating arthritis, which is plenty bad enough. She refuses to use an electric cart when shopping, preferring to use a regular push cart to lean on. She says, she “doesn’t want people to think she’s lazy”.

Carter is a born again Christian.
Matthew 7:3-5King James Version (KJV)
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

Carter was not my favorite president by any means, but I’m very sorry to learn this news. Prayers for Jimmy and for his family...

Maybe he can hang on long enough to see
Dracunculiasis eradicated, in which case he'd have a non-zero legacy. Since the Carter Center took on that challenge reported annual world cases drop from 3.5 million cases in 20 countries in 1986 to 126 in 4 in 2014. Through May this year only 5 cases in two countries have been reported although usual peak season has yet to come. Intentionally making a visible species extinct would be a very unusual legacy and in this case even his fellow liberals would agree, a good one. And in this case a lasting one. Which is notable as his earlier efforts to make liberalism extinct was failing within three terms. I hope Obama's efforts will discredit it longer.

He was not my favorite President, but I certainly do not wish cancer upon him.
On the upside, when he passes he will not go down in our history as the worst President.

Yep, I missed the 1976 election due to age by three weeks. 1980 was my first Presidential election and proudly voted for Ronald Reagan.
