Craig James, a longtime football analyst for several networks and a 2012 Senate candidate in Texas, is suing Fox Sports Southwest for firing him for his religious beliefs on homosexuality.
James's 2012 candidacy unraveled after he made several controversial statements about gays and gay marriage.
Craig James, a former professional football player and respected sportscaster, is suing Fox Sports Southwest, alleging that the broadcast network fired him because of his religious beliefs on homosexuality and marriage.
After working at the network for only a few days—and hosting one broadcast—James was terminated by Fox Sports on Sep. 1, 2013.
A senior vice president at the network suggested that the decision was based on statements James made about homosexuality and same-sex marriage—expressed more than a year prior to being hired at Fox Sports while campaigning to run for Senate.
James ran for a U.S. Senate seat in 2012, eventually losing to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.
“We just asked ourselves how Craig’s statements would play in our human resources department,” Lou D’Ermilio, Fox Sports Southwest’s senior vice president of communications, told the Dallas Morning News in early September 2013. “He couldn’t say those things here.”
In a 2012 Republican debate, James said he thinks being gay is “a choice” and that society “should not give benefits to those civil unions.”
“The fact that a major corporation would reach back into my past and hold something against me because of an honest answer that the public deserved—from me as a candidate—and fire me, that’s troubling,” James told The Daily Signal in an exclusive interview.

You cvan’t fire someone for what they might do or say in the future.
This is beyond pathetic.
Sue them into HELL!
Fox is totally Pro-Homo. FNC is particularly in tight with the homo mafia.
It won’t get far. Texas is a right-to-work state and employers have the right to terminate whomever they want. A sports announcer is a de facto ambassador for their network and the network has a valid business interest in displaying the public image they wish to project.
But what about the Texas Commission of Human Rights Act, which states that it is illegal to discriminate against employees because of religion (among other characteristics such as sex, age and race)?
Don’t be fooled by this guy. He was fired because of his very public role in the dismissal of Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach. James used his position as an ESPN analyst to wage a negative PR campaign against Leach for alleged mistreatment of his son, a backup TE for the Red Raiders. His career in sportscasting is over unless he wants to read updates for the local radio station in Dubuque. They might hire him but otherwise he’s done.
I hope he wins too.

Texas is an at-will employment state so no, they don't have to have reason for terminating an employee. They just can't do it for refusing to perform an illegal act, for taking medical leave, or for taking a protected action against an employer.
Better put some lube on that
If he never once mentioned his faith then how can he claim he's being fired for his religious beliefs?
I still despise this guy for that.
According to the texts of the communication, it was his view on gay marriage. What is your basis for your assertion?
This isn’t a very popular opinion in Red Raider land, but Leach deserved to get fired.
James may be a arse, but Leach deserved everything he got. He’s one of those coaches who blamed everyone except for himself for losses. His players, his coaches, the referees, the fans...they were all blamed at one time or another for losses.
Not a coach that deserves respect.
Whether Leach deserved to get fired or not has nothing to do with James actions as a high profile member of the media. Regardless of the outcome of this case (and I think he’ll lose) James will never again have a high profile job in sports broadcasting.
Don't forget the "fat girlfriends."
