Levin: the problem is assimilation

California in the mid to late 1990s... 59 to 41 percent approved Proposition 187 in 1994. A federal judge blocked the implementation of virtually all sections and IIRC sat on it for years refusing to act -- a Democrat replaced Wilson as governor and promptly worked out a deal to drop appeal action.

"Former cabinet secretaries Bill Bennett and Jack Kemp attacked California Governor Wilson for supporting Prop. 187. [saying that] immigrants are 'natural Republicans' [and] Wilson risks turning the Republican party into a party of protectionism and xenophobia. According to Bennett, 'its assimilation, stupid'--meaning that the major problem is not the number or type of immigrant entering the US. Instead, Bennett argues that fears that newcomers will not integrate into American society result from "too many" programs such as bilingual education that, he argues, promotes multiculturalism.

Not mentioned here is Jeb Bush in California with them calling us supporters of Prop 187 stupid, racists, xenophobes . . . .

I believe Mr. Levin will agree that there's now too damn many to assimilate -- exactly the problem the feds fixed 100 years ago.

I do not know how much of a Party man Bennett is to agree or not agree that there's now way too many of both legal (of the refugee, etc type cited by Senator Sessions as being one million green cards annually) and illegal.

Mueller was reportedly held for some time by Sayyaf and his wife, Umm Sayyaf, who was also captured by US special forces in May.

At the time, the Pentagon said Umm Sayyaf was suspected of being an IS member and of being complicit in the enslavement of a young Yazidi woman who was rescued in the raid.

Hundreds of young women and girls - many of them Yazidis captured in northern Iraq - are believed to be held as sex slaves by IS militants in areas under their control.

The Yazidi girls provided intelligence used by the US to interrogate Sayyaf’s wife, who “spilled everything” about several IS leaders and their whereabouts, a counterterrorism official told ABC.

Umm Sayyaf was handed over to the Kurdish authorities in northern Iraq last week to face trial.

The information that has come to light appears to contradict speculation that Mueller was treated well in captivity, as a letter written in 2014 and smuggled out to her family implied.

In it, Mueller tried to reassure her family, saying that she had been treated with “utmost respect + kindness”.

The humanitarian aid worker from Prescott, Arizona, travelled to the Turkey-Syria border in 2012 to work with refugees.
