The Fox News debate moderators treated Donald Trump like any other presidential candidate. They pressed him to explain past statements including his comments on Mexican immigrants and his misogynistic rhetoric. They queried him on policy flip-flops (e.g., on single-payer healthcare, on abortion) and on his financial support for Democrats.
Trump and his supporters then spent a good deal of Friday bellyaching that Fox had been too tough on him. He crudely insulted Megyn Kelly. He whined, I think the questions to me and thats why Im so honored the questions to me were much tougher than the questions to anybody else. Actually, they werent. Trumps defenders deep in the heart of the right-wing echo chamber were incensed Trump would be asked to defend his record and egregious language. For a group that dishes it out unmercifully to every insufficiently conservative Republican and to all liberals, they sure seem squeamish when their pet candidate is on the receiving end.
It is wrong to say he was treated more harshly than other candidates. Jeb Bush got grilled on Common Core and immigration; Ohio Gov. John Kasich had to explain his stance on Medicaid expansion; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was asked about his 180 on comprehensive immigration reform; and, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) was pressed to explain how he could be president when he cant even get along with the GOP Senate colleagues. But unlike these other candidates Trump whined during the debate. (What I say is what I say. And honestly Megyn, if you dont like it, Im sorry. Ive been very nice to you, although I could probably maybe not be, based on the way you have treated me.)
Later on Friday Trump went a tick too far even for the right wing. The Post reported:

Agreed.
Check out Bain Capital under Romney, too.
I thought the leftwing sissies didn’t approve of name calling.
Strange how all of Trumps enemies are the usual suspects. The same ones who trashed Palin for several years.
We HAVE had a candidate like Trump.
Ross Perot.
Has Trump said one negative thing about Hillary yet?
Cruz is playing it smart. If he wants credibility though he needs to point out how existing free trade agreements aren’t good for America, ditch the h-1b visas, and his wife needs quit working for a criminal enterprise.
You see gang to the media anyone Republican who fights back is a bully and any Republican who does not fight back is a wussy. Have you stop beating your wife? logic.
Come on livius, iontheball put up a good argument. What do you have to say in response?
If you think Bain Capital destroyed thousands of lives then there’s simply nothing anyone can say to you. You could blame trade, immigration, housing, tax policies, etc. but not Bain. Free marketers are like cats in they wild. They take what’s in front of them and hunt (except plying the capitalist trade isn’t eating, it’s monetizing). Management owes loyalty to no one save their equity holders while they’re at work.
Was that a rhetorical question, or don't you know?
For one, out of probably a hundred, he said she belongs in prison.
“Has Trump said one negative thing about Hillary yet?”
Well someone hasn’t been paying a lick of attention!
The sad lament of Jeb Bush’s campaign manager...
Lol! Quite possible! I do have a houseful of kids home for summer :)
Another FReeper asked me to search.
I found Trump’s response to Hillary re: immigration.
He described her as a failing candidate.
I remain unconvinced this isn’t Perot the Sequel.
I’m glad to see he said that about her.
I certainly hope he doesn’t eventually wind up assisting such a person winning the election.
“Has Trump said one negative thing about Hillary yet?”
I’m not following you around; I surmise you post this a lot. He said she’s the worst Secretary of State in human history.
No joke.
Scotswife,
Only repeatedly saying that her actions wrt to the emails were criminal. One of the things I like about Trump is that he is outraged over Hillary, Benghazi, Bowie Bergdahl- likely Fast & Furious no telling what all. It’s unlikely he’ll say it (he’s too smart for that), but it’s very probable that he will seek prosecutions if he is elected president.
All this time, it’s been “let’s move on” wrt to the criminal actions of the previous administrations. Trump has been paying attention & has been ticked off since the late 80s. If he is elected, I really don’t think we will be “moving on”. And there won’t be anything the goppies can do to protect them.
This is one of the reasons the left AND the right are freakin out. imho
And Cruz is building organizations in pivot states
In Iowa, July 2015:
""What she has done is criminal," Trump said. "I don't see how she can run. What she did is far worse than what Gen. [David] Petraeus did, and he's gone down in disgrace. I mean, she got rid of her server. He never did anything like that."
In Arizona:
"Trumps speeches were filled with tangents and insults leveled at business partners such as Univision and NBC that have dropped him in the wake of his comments that Mexican immigrants bring drugs and crime to the U.S. and are rapists. He also directed familiar barbs at other presidential contenders, including Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton (the worst secretary of state in the history of the country), "
On Stephanopoulos' show:
Trump went on to criticize Hillary Clintons use of a private email server while secretary of State. What Hillarys done with the emails is incredible, he said. She gets a subpoena, and then, after getting the subpoena, she cancels it? She cancels everything? What she did is illegal, he added. What she did is totally illegal. I dont know how she gets away with it.
