I agree that Hiroshima was justified but how are your examples a justification ? Pearl Harbor was a naval base. Good for them if they fought like hell wherever we attacked them. Isn’t that what they’re supposed to do?
Welcome to FR
My dad commanded an LCT on Utah Beach. Later, he was XO on an LST. They were headed to the Pacific, crossing the Panama Canal, when the war ended.
I had a friend who was a Marine on Tarawa. He didn’t talk about it much, but one time he did. He said that when they landed, the island was an impenetrable jungle, and when they left, there was not a tree standing. They had all been mowed down by rifle fire. That was what it was like taking land from the Japanese.
The Japanese were in the process of training and arming the entire civilian population of the Home Islands when we dropped The Bomb. Imagine the horror of that invasion. Every person able to walk would have rushed our soldiers, bamboo spear or grenade in hand. We would have had to kill them all. We would have had to kill them all.
Read about the invasion of Okinawa and how tens of thousands of Japanese were ordered to commit suicide rather than surrender to the white Devils
And so they did
I believe there may be memorials at some of the cliffs where women and children jumped to their deaths
Now apply that same edict to the entire Japanese mainland and, with the information available to a 1945 war planner, calculate the Japanese civilian death toll by suicide had an invasion occurred
I caught a ZoT!
It’s been awhile, hehe..
They were fighting to defend an empire of slaughter and rape. They fought like hell but what they were defending was pure evil.
It's funny how that inconvenient little fact gets overlooked in our colored view of history. Whether the attack was justified or not, Pearl Harbor was a military target -- and it was located in a disputed American possession that wasn't even a state at the time. What was the military value of killing hundreds of thousands of Japanese civilians?
"But Pearl Harbor was a naval base."
In a way, I believe that's Freudian...
war sucks, the point is to win, the Germans bombed civilians in England in an attempt to demoralize them, the japanese took out Pearl Harbor in an attempt to castrate our navy and demoralize us, the United states fire bombed Germany and Japan in an attempt to demoralize the people. I don’t think you can play the justification game with war, if you’re in it you have to do your best to win. It is apparent in korea and Vietnam what happens when you go half assed.
