Elite units in the military are by and large both white and male. Pentagon officials, however, are hoping for a major demographic shift, citing the benefits of diversity in terms of increasing operational capacity. Data provided by each individual service to USA Today illustrates current disparities, which are most prominent in units like the Navy SEALs and the Army’s Green Berets. For instance, in the Army, blacks comprised 17 percent of the force in 2013, a figure slightly higher than their representation in the overall population.
As the ranks start climbing, the numbers shift. Blacks amount to only 9.4 percent of officers in the military. In the Navy SEALs, just 2 percent are black, while Native Americans make up about 4 percent, or 99 SEALs. Only 5.6 percent of enlisted Green Berets are black. But in the Air Force, among para-rescuers, the number drops even further down to .6 percent.
The Pentagon considers this to be a problem. “We don’t know where we will find ourselves in the future,” said Army Col. Michael Copenhaver. “One thing is for sure: We will find ourselves around the globe. And around the globe you have different cultural backgrounds everywhere. Having that kind of a diverse force can only increase your operational capability.”
Copenhaver wrote a paper in 2014 arguing that integrating minorities into Special Operations Forces would help address national security threats because those minorities would have specific knowledge of culture in a given deployment area.

Sorry but we don’t need any affirmative action special forces members. We need the best and the brightest for the job regardless of race. No handicapping or putting a guy in the position ahead of another JUST because of his race.

The military welcomes any and all volunteers and then test them to see if they have the aptitude and attitude to serve. Very few black volunteer for Special Operations and even fewer qualify. Ergo, Special Operations does not reflect the same ratio of minority distribution as the general population. The reason that other agencies of the government are over represented by Black is because qualifications are ignored. That improves the election chances for Democrat politicians.

Elite means elite, you measure up, you make it. Affirmative action means you pass all phases and meet the requirements needed to lead. No funky political appointments ever. You have to earn it not just get assigned to it. Its not the BSA, although this administration would like it to be.

Yes and they have enlisted in the services with the specific intent of getting military training so that they could train fellow gang members after their enlistment.
So much so in fact that the military actually established rules that forbid enlistment of recruits with gang tattoos.
I have a Nephew who was a JAG Colonel for the Air Force. I was sure he would make General but he resigned a year or so ago. He is one of the two smartest people I have ever personally known. He is a genius.
I used to kid him about why he didn’t fly around in his F-15 like Harm Rabb did his F-14. Of course Rabb actually was a pilot.
