Last September, CVS became the first major pharmacy chain in America to stop selling cigarettes and other tobacco products in its stores. The drug store chain said it was the right thing to do -- even though it would hurt sales.
Now CVS (CVS) is detailing just how much the tobacco ban is impacting the company. While prescription sales continue to rise, general merchandise sales tumbled nearly 8% last quarter on a same-store basis.
CVS blamed the slump on the tobacco ban. The company said front-store sales would have been flat compared with the year before if they didn't make the change.

Not trying hijack this thread, but just how many billions of people really need Viagra or Cialis? I mean is there really this sudden explosion of erectile dysfunction? Millions and millions of heterosexual men struggling with intimacy with their wives? Or is this really about homosexuals and people going to raves or some such thing? I simply cannot believe the sheer number of ads for these products is really representative of the scope of any problem.
I wish we could ban second-hand liberalism.
A friend tells me that it is a sex enhancer if you don’t have ED.
I haven’t smoked in 40 years so I could care less. But when they started pushing it in commercials I knew it was going to backfire on them. People will take care of themselves or not. Either way they don’t want nannies make their decisions for them.
Gooooood.
This is why I haven’t gone to a CVS in months:

Tobacco sales are low margin and high labor.”
If you buy within the city in our area they are around $80 a carton, if you buy from a store in the County, they are $58.
We quit going to CVS because of Soros connection.
Two of us, and I do not use tobacco products...
The people that don't need it are either getting the prescription from a doctor under fraudulent or unethical conditions or buying it on the black market.
It's very similar to the gun control arguments. Eliminate all guns and the bad guys won't have them...Right??
Agreed. I spent many years in retail and you barely made any money on cigarettes. It was to draw people into the store where they would buy other things.
Your age is showing, its SVN now..
Get with the times, geezer.
I just switched to CVS because the customer service at Walgreen’s has deteriorated so badly particularly in the pharmacy.
Ever notice that the anti-tobacco dorks are the same ones who are gung ho for marijuana? You know, UNFILTERED marijuana?
Even before they stopped selling cigarettes, I always thought their merchandise was overpriced. It's only a matter of time before Amazon kills them off (along with Walgreens) with their roving delivery trucks that will circle neighborhoods loaded with these kind of sundry everyday items for when people run out of toothpaste, shampoo, or simply have a craving for chocolate bars. Soon you will be able to open your app and have these items delivered to your doorstep within an hour.
Well, ... yes.
Everybody has to make their own decisions. Everybody has to draw their own lines. I certainly wouldn't invest in an abortion clinic.
Got GIT?
When do they start selling marijuana?...
SMOKING KILLS... Marijuana DOESn’T..
To believe THIS... you MUST be on some kind of DOPE..
