Chris Wallace tapped the black three-ring binder resting on the corner of his desk. Ive got some doozies in there, he said, eyebrow raised provocatively.
The unlabeled binder holds the veteran Fox News anchors questions for Thursdays Republican primary debate, for which he will serve as a moderator. Clamped inside it are newspaper clippings, memos to his researcher and outlines of what the hodgepodge of presidential candidates vying to top the GOP field have been saying about the issues and about each other.
It has become a primary-season ritual for Wallace, a fixture at Fox News for more than a decade, to challenge and goad the packed roster of Republican candidates. But this debate in Cleveland, the first of the 2016 election season, may be in a league of its own.

Example of “doozies” at an upcoming Democrat debate:
“Why does everyone think you’re so great?”
“How will Republican policies destroy the earth?”
“Where is Hillary?”
Probably will, and he will be back at them. Trump’s phone number get published, so Trump records an ad for his campaign. He will handle the debate just fine.
I expect that to be Ted Cruz....After Wallace hits bush and Christie with hard hitting questions like...”Whats your favorite color”...He'll try to sucker Cruz with a no win “dozzie”...My hope is Cruz will call him out and proceed to answer unasked questions that the American people really want to know about....Cruz is really good at that..
I noticed it also.
That’s what these debates have degraded to. Gotcha questions and time limited responses. Entertaining yes but not the way to select a presidential candidate. But they are great for ratings. And that’s what it’s all about.
These debates become all about the moderators. (Gee, what color dress will Megyn be wearing, will Chris be the one to derail Trump, will Bret show the nation they should be thinking more about Jeb Bush). The moderator should be a little gray man with a list if questions, a rule book and a timer. This should be about the candidates, not focusing on the moderators at all. They should be off camera.
The moderators are working for the DNC.
How about:
Do all of you feel the women who had human tissue harvested from them should have gotten some of the money on the sale of their “donations” from Planned Parenthood?
And would you support a civil class action suit in order for these women to receive just compensation?
I can dream can’t I. Go after the money for these poor women...that can be done today!!! Where are the lawyers???
The left only cares about money...make them defend themselves in courts all across the country...put them on the defensive..cost them money in legal fees for a change.
Paging Mark Levin et al....
Moderators spend more time in trying to come up with the ‘gotcha’ that will make the news cycles for a long time, instead of trying to ask questions that elicit real information for the voters.
The moderators hope to be the next Stephanopoulos with his idiotic question ‘would you support states banning contraceptives?’ or Crowley with the ‘get the transcript, Candy,’ exchange.
The moderators are more interested in BEING news makers so they will go down in the annals of historic presidential debate ‘gotcha’ questions.
No doubt Wallace has spent hours trying to come up with ‘doozies’ that might trip up certain participants.
[I hope he is disappointed as some of those participants throw the ‘gotchas’ back in his face. Gingrich sort of led the charge of doing that in 2012. The 2012 participants also started balking at the ‘raise your hand if ...’ questions.]
CHRIS WALLACE: “My question is to Donald Trump, Mister Trump you have been asked from many journalists and even some of your fellow candidates up there with you now question your ability to make Mexico pay for your wall and I quote...
TRUMP (interrupting): “Mr. Wallace, all of us here are severely limited to responses and rebuttals, if you and the other moderators keep that in mind before asking long winded editorializing questions you shouldn’t make them longer the our reply time. Now I understand you have a ‘real doozie’ of a comment or question for me just ask it and let’s move on”
Worse—the RNC.
Hey, Chris, instead of grandstanding with doozies, how about sticking to the real events that people are concerned with.
At their own peril.
I agree about shutting down an ambush.
But I fear Trump has been set up... the DRUDGE HEADLINE as I type..
BUSH SAYS TRUMP is Clown, A$$hole — IT’s a set up for Trump to hit back... but nobody outside the faithful will see the first punch.
I hope Trump has more savvy than to fall for such a pre pubescent trick. Bush attacks him on the Drudge Report... Trump stews all day .. and then over reacts in front on millions... that’s the way it may play.
Just as scripted.
Wallace thinks he’s a lot smarter than he is.
These days, it's getting harder and harder to tell the difference.
