A majority of blacks in the United States - more than 3 out of 5 - say they or a family member have personal experience with being treated unfairly by the police, and their race is the reason why.
This information, from a survey conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, comes as the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, approaches its first anniversary and the nation continues to grapple with police-related deaths of black Americans.
African-Americans said they felt especially targeted by the police. Half of black respondents, including 6 in 10 black men, said they personally had been treated unfairly by police because of their race, compared to 3 percent of whites. Another 15 percent said they knew of a family member who had been treated unfairly by the police because of their race.

... race baiting works ... real good!
OK pull up your pants and stop committing most of the crime!
Half of them have also been arrested
compare to only 3% of whites
I guess I am part of the 3%.
In any event, note that it included family members. That’s an easy way to inflate the numbers.

What percentage has problems with ANY authority, generally?
I’m white and I’ve been treated unfairly. Been stopped for driving violations 5 times in my life and 4 of those resulted in a ticket. :)
Ax the police how blacks have behaved and treated them when they have police-citizen interactions. This story has two sides to it.
Same thing happened to college buddy who got beat-up by Chicago police and believe me they know how not to leave marks. Parents had same reaction (he is Hispanic)
I had an incident in HS where the cop told me to "run along young man" so I went home. Never told my parents.
Of course my basic impulse is to say, "so what?". Stuff happens. Mind your P's & Q's and it won't happen nearly as often.
Pants up, don’t loot works for me.
I just have to say, you treat the police with respect, you’ll get it back.
You start mouthing off to the cops, well Chris Rock said it best:

Officer, you pulled me over today.
Not to be mean, or because of a “quota”
Not because my car is old,
Not because I’m young and female..
But because I was speeding.
I was pulled over today.
I pulled over before you turned your lights on.
I waited for you with my papers
In my hand, outside the window.
I called you sir, you called me ma’am.
We were respectful toward one another.
I did not lie, cry, or
cut you down for doing your job.
And you didn’t have to argue with me.
I didn’t run, thus you didn’t chase me.
I didn’t pull a gun on you,
So you didn’t shoot me.
I did not resist,
You didn’t have to put hands on me.
I did not pull out a camcorder
I don’t want you to feel scared to do your job
Or like you are walking on eggshells because
I need you to feel comfortable keeping us safe.
And I want you to come home to your family tonight.
I know you were sworn in..
You may have sworn your last breath
For me or those like me, and for those like you.
I will not tell you how to do your job.
I know I can’t do your job.
Not many can.
When you pulled me over today,
I saw your unit..
A Setina guard on the front
A camera behind the windshield
A gun, a tazer, and handcuffs on your belt.
And I know these things are to protect you,
And to protect those like you,
And to protect those like me.
And I felt no need to complicate things
Like others have done.
Officer you pulled me over today.
You wrote me a ticket today
For something I know I did.
But there are bigger things beyond tickets
So I said “Thank You”
And I meant it.
Because on that ticket is a signature of a man
That would sacrifice his last breath to keep us safe,
And die for his brothers.
And that signature is on a citation..
But I’ll respect it when I see it.
I know Safety comes at a price.
I’d rather it be a few hundred bucks
Than someone’s life.
Once again, Thank you.
His longtime friend, Stephanie King, who lived in the house where he was eventually found, defended him, telling local news station WISN that she wasnt going to throw him to the wolves.
Im going to keep loving him because he aint do no wrong, she said. He just shot a cop.
This is going to be perceived by some as being a racist comment, but I would venture to guess that a much higher percentage of blacks have had encounters with police than those of other races.
One small correction..
Well... I’ve never broken the law so I can’t really say I’ve ever given the police a reason to accost me.
I wear my britches on my waist, with a belt, like a man. I speak coherent English, not jive ‘he be aint did nuttin’.
Police officers look at me and see a well mannered, civilized, productive member of society.
Perhaps if I got myself arrested a dozen times so that police were familiar with me... got some gold teeth and face tattoos... started speaking expletive-laced jive ebonics and wore my pants off my butt... then maybe I could experience some of this unfair treatment that I hear so much about.
So 4 out of 10 black women think they’ve been treated unfairly by police, too?
Yeah, race could ONLY be the reason.
(spoken as the true racists.)
