Donald Trump says that he supports shutting down the government to defund Planned Parenthood in the wake of a series of controversial undercover videos of organization officials.
The Republican presidential contender was asked on The Hugh Hewitt show Monday night if he supported the move. "Well I can tell you this: I would," Trump replied.
Planned Parenthood has been under attack from Republicans over videos that show officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue for medical research. The pro-abortion rights group argues the videos have been heavily edited and are misleading, and that it only accepts compensation to cover expenses.
A procedural vote on the issue was filibustered by Democrats in the Senate on Monday.
Republicans were badly hurt in 2013 by the government shutdown, which was triggered by an effort to defund ObamaCare.

Trump said he also supported the move to defund ObamaCare in 2013.
"I was also in support if the Republicans stuck together you could have done it with ObamaCare also, but the Republicans decided not to stick together and they left a few people out there like Ted Cruz," he said. "You know, they left a lot of the people that really went in and wanted to do the job and you know what? If they had stuck together they would have won that battle."
"I think you have to in this case also, yes," he added.
Trump's statement is sure to put more pressure on Republicans to back defunding of Planned Parenthood, especially as his remarks come days before the first GOP debate.
Trump has led a series of polls measuring the support of GOP presidential candidates.
I know. I didn’t write it.
” Do morons NOT realize Nazi = National >>SOCIALIST<< German Workers Party?”
Even NON morons don’t know, because they are too lazy to research anything.
In the age of the Internet, there’s no excuse for ignorance of history.
Exactly. None at all.
But the truth doesn’t fit “their” narrative, so it’s ignored until it can be erased.
Kinda like how “Uncle Joe” ran things, huh? Erase them.
To say Hitler was “right wing” is like saying “You have a packet of ‘instant water’, all you need to do is to add water to it”.
WHAT?
Exactly.
No there isn’t, but people are lazy. Also, the public schools removed history as a graduation requirement, and that caused a lot of disinterest in learning
Yes and yes.
This tells me that we're so lost in "political correctness" and Government control
that when Trump makes a reasonable common sense remark aimed at dealing with
the situation he is regarded as a radical/renegade.
America is desperately trying to find its way back to the main road.
Now, in fact Lincoln's views were 100% within the mainstream of the Republican Party (not the Whigs) in 1860. Trump's views are pretty much what moderate/conservative views would be expected to be---except he actually says them and means them and refuses to back down. Lincoln got away with it because he was unknown and the underdog to Douglas. Trump gets away with it because, so far, he's the only one on our side (with a little support from Fiorina and Cruz) saying this stuff forcefully.
Cruz.
I totally agree with your entire statement. Well stated.
We are waiting to watch the "independent variables" attempt to play themselves out.
I hope someone points out how HilLIARy Clinton adores Margaret Sanger, the woman who set up the first abortion clinic to rid the population of colored people! Just like that Chinese dictator that Hillary adores who slaughtered millions of there people.
Let’s not forget she let four heroes get killed in Benghazi and lied about in one of her fifty faces of evil about those Americans whom she was supposed to have their backs!
The repubbies are becoming just as corrupt as the democrats and it is time to throw all these corrupt politicians out!
Trump’s full of hot air. What has he done? When has he lead the fight in NY? Where are his donations? You’ll note that Trump is the classic demagogue. He reacts to what the people have already decided. He’s no leader and it took him until now to discover that a Crook County Democrat without any skillset, but grievance, is the wrong guy for the job. Larry, you of all people, should be able to spot a faker.
He was vocal an unequivocal in calling for building the fence (in simple words) and having Mexico pay for it.
He's more of a leader than anyone in the GOP, save Cruz, Fiorina, and perhaps Walker (jury is still out). This is why Cruz has been meeting with him, not vice versa.
But, have it your way. I guess you can vote for Yeb.
That’s the most naïve thing I’ve ever heard from you, Larry, and I really respect your opinion. Trump has ‘called’ for many things. What has he done on those things? He’s a billionaire. He certainly could have thrown a few million to fight abortion, stop illegal immigration, fight for traditional marriage, etc. over the last five years. Yet he hasn’t. A historian would ask, “why?”
Demagogues ‘call’ for things. They speak. Leaders actually do things, make things happen and succeed. That’s what makes them leaders. On what issues important to conservatives who want to restore American liberty has Trump actually acted upon? We know his mouth works, but where has he put his money?
Trump’s history is that of a typical urban land developer. He’s born with a silver spoon and a trust fund, but because he’s brash conservatives give that a pass. He’s supported the Left wing of NY politics all his life, but conservatives give him a pass because he’s spouting their talking points. It’s like it’s a planned marketing scheme meant to push certain buttons.
Historians should have perspective about these candidates, not crushes. What might Trump really be doing? Might he not be simply wounding the GOP (something they deserve), holding back any competitive candidates against Hillary, and then sandbagging the GOP giving the race to the Dems?
Urban RE developers, especially those at the top, are cosmopolitan, they are pure RINO in their outlook and have a ‘what’s in it for me’ attitude. They don’t rock the boat because that would cost them with the powers that be. The powers that be in every major urban area are Democrats and their grievance groups. Trump doesn’t pass the smell test.
He’s a ‘rock star’. That what he brings to the election. Perhaps that’s the problem.
Frankly reacting to what the people have decided would be a welcome change from the current administration’s stance of “FU, your getting what we want no matter how unpopular”.
Really!!??
I thought they had a landslide victory in 2014. How were they "badly hurt"...?
Check back in a little over a year.
I don’t write it, I just post it.
Force the issue.
Yeah. I know you wouldn't be silly enough to write such a thing. The Hill would be, though.
