Wonkish and mealy-mouthed, Jeb needs to start riling up his supportersbefore Donald Trump wins them all over.
To hear Jeb Bush tell it, hes right where he wants to be, the joyful tortoise in the race who doesnt want to say outrageous things that turns people off to the conservative message. At the Koch Brothers GOP donor convocation in Dana Point, Calif., over the weekend, Bush waxed confident about the campaign strategy hes following, including the $120 million war chest hes spent six months amassing. I mean, this is a long haul, Bush said.
But many GOP voters dont seem to care about the long haul. And theyre certainly not looking for a joyful tortoise. They want a fire-breathing dragon. They want, above all, passion. They want it now. And theyre not finding it in Jeb Bush.
Enter Donald Trump. Strategists in the Bush camp seem unconcerned about the vituperative magnates sudden rise in the polls, with one of them telling The New York Times that in the end the Trump surge will only create panic in the GOP and drive voters to Bush.
That seems wishful thinking at best. The ease with which Trump has stepped into the passion vacuum in the Republican race points up a bigger problem for Jeb: The only excitement generated by his Bush candidacy so far seems manufactured, much like the exclamation point at the end of his Jeb! logo. Given what a commanding lead he has built in money and organization, its striking how Bushs poll numbers have been flat or declining. In New Hampshire, where Bushs pragmatic and moderate conservatism was supposed to play well, he had 21 percent support in early June, but only 12 percent in a poll taken July 28. In Iowa, he is closer to the middle

When has he put forth the “conservative message”?
Jeb Bush is mentally ill.
Megalomania
Personally, I think Jeb stinks as a candidate regardless.
Yep... that’s probably right.
“joyful tortoise” => designated Loser!
Chris Stirewalt was on Megyn Kelly’s show last night repeating the latest convoluted BushWorld talking point.
You see. It’s good that Trump has staying power now. Because the longer he stays in, the better for Bush. The theory goes that once Trump blows up, it’ll be too late and too risky to take a chance on another fire breathing conservative (e.g. Cruz) so Trump supporters will panic and support the grown up in the field. And that’s Bush.
Who comes up with stuff?
Yeb!!!!!!!!!
Boy am I excited! /s
” Personally, I think Jeb stinks as a candidate regardless.”
The ‘liberal machine’ is run by very savvy people, and they make sure that any person or group and their particular hates are soon joined. If you dislike big spenders, they will let you know which conservatives are the big spenders. If you hate rich people, they will deliver to your doorstep the info about which republican candidates are the wealthiest. Gov’t funded abortion gets you riled up? Well, they will gladly provide you and yours with a list of the pubbie candidates that are mealy on pro-life issues. All the while, down-playing and hiding the faults of the liberal candidates.
Aside from that, all things being such as they are, yes, Jeb stinks.
Yes no wonder they are worried about how they will look up agains’t Donald Trump.
We'll know when Jon Lovitz starts impersonating him.
I get your point.
I don't know anyone who will support him.
Rubio is only slightly less non supported!
