Wonkish and mealy-mouthed, Jeb needs to start riling up his supportersbefore Donald Trump wins them all over.
To hear Jeb Bush tell it, hes right where he wants to be, the joyful tortoise in the race who doesnt want to say outrageous things that turns people off to the conservative message. At the Koch Brothers GOP donor convocation in Dana Point, Calif., over the weekend, Bush waxed confident about the campaign strategy hes following, including the $120 million war chest hes spent six months amassing. I mean, this is a long haul, Bush said.
But many GOP voters dont seem to care about the long haul. And theyre certainly not looking for a joyful tortoise. They want a fire-breathing dragon. They want, above all, passion. They want it now. And theyre not finding it in Jeb Bush.
Enter Donald Trump. Strategists in the Bush camp seem unconcerned about the vituperative magnates sudden rise in the polls, with one of them telling The New York Times that in the end the Trump surge will only create panic in the GOP and drive voters to Bush.
That seems wishful thinking at best. The ease with which Trump has stepped into the passion vacuum in the Republican race points up a bigger problem for Jeb: The only excitement generated by his Bush candidacy so far seems manufactured, much like the exclamation point at the end of his Jeb! logo. Given what a commanding lead he has built in money and organization, its striking how Bushs poll numbers have been flat or declining. In New Hampshire, where Bushs pragmatic and moderate conservatism was supposed to play well, he had 21 percent support in early June, but only 12 percent in a poll taken July 28. In Iowa, he is closer to the middle

Turning?
Puffin’ Fresh is obviously running to win the Sandra Fluke/Pajama Boy vote, which no self-respecting conservative would waste his time on.
If Jeb gets the nomination, a dem victory is assured. He can be linked to Dubya in every media sentence and scene. Trump is NOT hated by millions of people on all sides.
Jeb has the elites path and can not sell it.
I think Jeb wants to be president, he just doesn’t want to run for president.
Good quotes in this one!
“wonkish and mealy mouthed”
“passion vacuum”
... and has anyone noticed that the only two candidates prominently featuring an exclamation point after their names are “Hillary!” and “Jeb!” ?
Interesting comparison. Get that man a tank.
So tired of comparisons, Trump like Reagan, Bush like Dukakis, why can’t we just look at them and let them be unique, Trump is Trump, Bush is Bush. Comparisons compartmentalize uniqueness, then the details are lost and everyone looks the same.
The problem is that Jeb thinks that the conservative message itself is outrageous.
People don’t like Jeb and it has noting to do with Bush 43. He hates conservatives that is his problem.
I live in the Chicago area, and I haven’t come across ONE person who has said they support Yeb! I realize that’s anecdotal evidence, these polls must somehow get the chamber of cronies in the sample. The guy is just brutal. If Yeb! does wind up getting the nomination, I will have not one shred of doubt that the whole game is rigged.
Joyful tortoise?
The “joyful tortoise” is a post turtle
Can we see him facing Iran? Or a democrat congress?
couldn’t happen to a nicer fellow. Time to jazz up his wardrobe and spike his hair.
Those exclamation points can get you into real trouble..

In fact, Ive got a T-shirt that says, uh, at the Jeb swag store, that says Im the, um, Im the, my dads the greatest man alive. If you dont like it, Ill take you outside.
“... the Trump surge will only create panic in the GOP and drive voters to Bush”
That’s how utterly stupid the Bush advisers are. They really think that? I tell you now, if Bush is the nominee, he will get less votes than Bob Dole did against Bill Clinton. Jeb Bush on the GOP ticket will be an epic disaster.
(...who doesnt want to say outrageous things that turns people off to the conservative message.)
Really? Does anyone remembering the “conservative message” leaving Bush’s lips?
He's ENTITLED.
It's HIS TURN.
All Hail the Dauphin, Jeb the Inevitable!
