The vote to DEFUND Planned Parenthood FAILS in the Senate!
I have always been Pro-Life for all these years even where I am now which is as a sobered up drunk who has moved away from a legalistic religious past.
One thing I’ve learned in my sobered up state which many conservative religious social issue voters still haven’t learned is that the GOP is using them and pretending to be up in arms about marriage or abortion.
The GOP either pretends or repudiates conservatism whether they voted YES or NO on this issue or countless others even outside the social issues sphere.
This vote was an opportunity for many Republicans to look good and have forces that sucker religious conservatives into supporting the GOPe candidates cite their voting records at election time to point to the fakers as “Pro Life” and “Pro Family” and so on.......
Of course.
Love these rules. The hilarious thing is... they actually make sense!
Because we were getting screwed by the Rats! Don’t you understand?!

You ain't kidding. I don't know if these people are just lying or as ignorant as their posts suggest. We aren't political neophytes around here and should know something as basic as this that if a vote fails in the Senate the leader can vote "no" and be allowed to bring the bill back up at a future date. Basic, basic thing. We've been following Senate votes here for how long?
In no defence of Mitch, if the majority leader votes with the prevailing side he may reintroduce the bill at a later date.
A vote to help a lot of business as usual politicians including some Pro-Abortion ones look good with religious voters next year since this idea stands a snowball’s chance in hell with Obama in the WH.
Its a look good tactical vote by the politicians of a party who see their grassroots demanding real and meaningful action on many issues beyond the Pro-Life one.........
The political system is failing with an honest and sincere civil disobedience movement looking like a better option than this pretense.......

Basic thing? Since you are so erudite surely you can discern this bill is designed to fail kabuki. Note McConnell couldn’t even keep the caucus together on the cloture vote.
The GOP simply have no intention of every defunding PP. They want the issue to fundraise. Period.
Chopped up dead babies mean nothing to these beltway pigs because it’s happy hour time!
Right. There weren’t enough votes to override Obama’s veto. So....
Sometimes I think these votes are to set up the Republicans to tick off the voters. People forget this is a process.
It all started with the 2006 election. We were primed to vote in Nancy and Harry because the Republicans weren’t being fiscally responsible. No one pointed out the deficit was $171B. The lowest since 2000. Of course, people still believe that we had surpluses then even though we had a Federal deficit of $77B. Low but NO surplus.
Specifically, a Senator who votes "No" on a bill has the right to bring the issue up for reconsideration at any time in the future (a Senator who votes "Yea" cannot do this).
Traditionally, the Leaders vote last -- so they know the outcome when they cast their vote.
McConnell's an establishment turd...but you can't use this particular vote against him.
Really - caucus didn’t hold together? Looks like it did other than Mark Kirk. Even Susan Collins stayed in the fold on an abortion vote - that’s no small accomplishment. And what other reason did McConnell have for changing his vote in the end so that the bill could be brought back up if not for the procedural reason?
Try making a factual argument.
Sure we can. Next time he's up for re-election.
Senate rules are too subtle for sound bytes.
Try making a factual argument.
Try admitting the obvious.
This is designed to fail kabuki theater. Rand was ranting about about 58 votes to defund PP. Not even close. I doubt McConnell even whipped this vote. They don’t care. Not interested at all. Party time!
You don’t understand what happened, do you?
I’m saying that the next time he runs, the fact should be put out there that he voted to prevent a vote from happening to shut down federal funding for PP.
If he wishes to explain the nuance, then so be it. We’ll know how it played out, won’t we?
[Look, all of the McConnell apologists say that he did this in order to be able to bring it up later. OK, fine. If he actually brings it up later, then you all are right. If he doesn’t bring it up later, then please explain how this tactic mattered. By the time he is up for re-election in 2020, we’ll know one way or the other]
Much better than you. By miles.
I did state the obvious. I stated facts which are objective and indisputable. You stated information is objectively and indisputably false. That makes it pretty clear. Your argument is circular with no foundation - like arguing with most liberals - I would suggest not trying emulate their debate tactics any further.
No, it's not. A failed cloture motion means the underlying issue is still alive. Moving to reconsider is one way to have another cloture vote, but so is filing another cloture motion.
Plus, the measure can be attached to any bill as an amendment. There is no procedural limit to the number of times this can be done, and failed.

Please ping me when Mr. McConnell actually allows that to happen...during the first session of this Congress, please.
