I was at an after church barbeque yesterday for my wife's church. There was extensive talk about Trump and how we need somebody from the outside - who has not been corrupted by a career in politics. This is a very conservative crowd but they were willing to overlook any "flaws" Trump might have with respect to being a model conservative or Christian. They have had enough of establishment politicians and many of them truly fear for this country's future if we do not put it back on track. Overwhelmingly, they see Donald Trump as the man who will do it. They recognize that he loves this country and at least proclaims himself to be a Christian, though probably no altar boy - and that's enough for them.

There's a lot of talk among the Beltway crowd and other political pundits that this whole Trump thing is a summertime fling and that he will eventually say or do something that will cause his supporters to abandon him. I do not see that. The enthusiasm for Donald Trump is very, very strong and as I pointed out, everybody is aware of his flaws, but willing to overlook them.

This is no "flash in the pan." Also, considering Trump's massive ego, there's no way he is going to back away now. If he does so, the reputation he has spend decades building will go out the window.

The comparisons to Perot in 1992 do not hold with regard to Trump. Perot destroyed his reputation with his 1992 hijinks. Does anybody see Ross Perot today as anything but a laughingstock? Donald Trump does not want to be another Ross Perot. He's in this for the long haul and he's in it to win.

If Trump gets the nomination, I see him winning in states that Republicans have not taken for years. New York, New Jersey and California for example. Could be an epic landslide that we haven't seen since the days of Reagan.

Is the group at your wife’s church rural, small town, suburban, or urban?

SamAdams76, I think you have it about right. Well thought out predictions and likely to come true.

Same experience here. One of the bible study teachers started class by saying he’s the Donald Trump of our church, there to shake things up and make us think.

Trump has got a lot of people interested

I have found myself feeling just like your church community.

I also add whenever I can that getting a decent guy in the WH is a step but not a solution. Another step is the COS preferably the one proposed by CSG. I call those offensive “top-down” measures (trying to fix the feds form the top - tough).

But there’s also individual states who can and should RIGHT NOW decide to reject and nullify unconstitutional federal acts like Obamacare and minimum wage for example. I call that defensive bottoms-up measures the states should implement to protect their citizens from federal tryanny.

IMO, all of the above would be helpful. We need to cut the $4 trillion beast down to its constitutional size which is about $800 billion - so cutting about $3 trillion. Not a five-minute job.

Very well thought out and written. Those who wait for the "perfect candidate" will be waiting a long time.

Amen and bump to your well stated post. I think there are MANY, all across the fruited plains, who also agree with your every word.

Thanks.
