Fox News leaves many questions unanswered about debate
The Hill ^ | 08/01/2015 | Niall Stanage

The cable network has yet to reveal the polls it will use to decide which 10 of the 17 prominent, declared candidates will win a place at a podium for the main 9 p.m. debate. Those who do not make the cut will be consigned to a lower-profile 5 p.m. event.

The polling issue is only one of the topics that are attracting intense attention from campaign operatives and political observers.

Among the details that people are obsessing over: the positioning of the candidates on the stage, with contenders at the center generally held to benefit at the expense of those confined to its edges; the question of whether serious efforts will be made to ensure all candidates get equal airtime; and the broader issue of how the three moderators will exercise some control over an encounter that, on paper, looks like it could teeter on the precipice of chaos.

I think one of the biggest concerns is that there is no guarantee of them even trying for equal time. It's likely going to be all Trump, Walker, Bush.

My guess is they will do everything they can to highlight the candidates of The Cheap Labor Express and sink the candidates opposed to it.

Fox News is on board The Cheap Labor Express. Never forget that.

Of interest to me is the strategies being employed by the polling companies.

Here is what I think:

1. The major pollsters all want to one of the Fox News Big 5.

2. Releasing your poll too early means that you could easily fail to meet the “5 Most Recent National Polls” criteria.

3. We will see a rash of national polls on Tuesday, the Fox “Deadline Day”.

Carson? Didn’t know he was still running. Or Why.

Fox should determine the top 10 before Tuesday at 5:00 pm, only two days before the debate.

Fox News has long associations with many GOP insiders and those in the corridors of power in Washington DC. Fox operates in those circles, and relies upon these pundits and politicians to provide color on their shows as talking heads. I predict they are going to go after Trump on behalf of those “friends”.

Jeb will be front and center, all the other canidates will be in a semi-circle behind him.

The first question will be “Jeb, when you win the nomination what will you say to Hillary”.

Likely: Trump, Bush, Cruz, Walker. Probables: Carson, Huckabee, Paul, Rubio, Kasich. Possibly Christie to try to make Bush look moderate. Or Fiorina for a female. I don’t see Jindal or Santorum making the list, but after the big 3 numbers drop off significantly, and to get 10, you are dipping into the margin of error. (When the margin of error is 4%, and you are picking from a batch of folks polling 3-5 percent, the selection is getting pretty close to random.

Yes, I was surprised to see that Carson was polling so well compared to some of the better funded and publicized candidates.

He is an outsider, softspoken yet makes good sense, very likeable. Noble career and people trust doctors. Compare and contrast.

I have not seen Trump initiate a single attack. He responds and stand up to attacks like Limpy Graham’s “JACK ASS” comment or McCain’s calling 15,000 in phoenix “CRAZIES” and yet the hit piece here says this:
“If the line of questioning is to allow each candidate who has been attacked by Donald Trump the chance to respond, that could take the whole two hours,”
I “don’t like the tone” of this article.

They can't decide what to do about Trump.

They don't want him there, they'd like to silence him, but they know no one will want to watch their little charade if he's not included.

It's all much ado about nothing.

At Fox (the loser) Jeb will be the winner. They'll talk about it on every FAUX segment for a week.

Cruz lives to debate but they'll have to turn his mike up so he can be heard. Hopefully he's practicing in front of a mirror how to show some passion, not just mouth words.

If I was Trump I would just show up, point out that he is the only one there not being paid, or told by someone else to say what he has to say...and walk off.

FOXNews will do a good job with this... and with any luck they'll take over the debates from this point on... Most Americans are tired of 'elite liberals' who hate traditional Americans asking questions fed to them by dem war rooms. Or doing a Candy Crowley and stepping into the debate to 'mommy protect' her favorite.

No more liberal liars on the boards...

Can't stand any of them. With that crew moderating they might as well have the debate on Redeye using surprise guests and Andy as "moderators".

Yes, he is a noble man, highly educated and unable to run a government according to the Constitution. I quit reading about him about months ago when I read some of the extremely liberal stances he was purporting. I truly believe the only reason he is still in the race is because he is the GOP’s token ‘diversity’ candidate. Indians do not matter, Hispanics do not matter and women do not matter to GOPe.

The debate schedule has already been set with sponsors. There are 11 GOP primary debates. FOX News is sponsor or co-sponsor of 3, and FOX Business is sponsoring one. The others are CNN, ABC, etc.

It’s nuts for our people to be on debates moderated by people who are liars - who hate us - and are dedicated to our destruction.

We need to stand up to the liars and left wing extremists... and refuse to be on a stage with people who are given their questions by democrat war rooms.
