As outrage grows over the killing of Cecil the lion, Zimbabwe has called on the United States to extradite the American dentist who shot the prized big cat.
Zimbabwe has started extradition proceedings and hopes the United States will cooperate, said Oppah Muchinguri, the African nation's environment minister.
Walter Palmer "had a well-orchestrated agenda which would tarnish the image of Zimbabwe and further strain the relationship between Zimbabwe and the USA," Muchinguri said.
Palmer, his professional hunter guide, and the owner of the land where the hunt took place are accused of an illegal hunt under the country's Parks and Wildlife Act, Muchinguri said in a statement on the country's parks and wildlife website.
Specifically, Palmer is accused of financing an illegal hunt, and he and the professional hunter are also accused of illegally using a crossbow "to conceal the illegal hunt" so they wouldn't alert rangers on patrol, she said.

So you’re going to attempt to try to argue with me that deer are worse than the illegal aliens who almost killed me?
Don’t ping me anymore. I’m done “chatting” with you.
I clearly said ,’DEER ARE NOT HUMAN BEINGS”
I don’t have a problem with hunting to put food on the table and meat in the freezer. I’m a gun guy, an instructor, and 2nd Amendment activist, as any who’ve read my posts over the years can readily attest.
As far as “Cecil the lion” goes... I’m not big on trophy kills. But personifying the lion, calling it some cutesy little name, having cry-ins and other ridiculous BS over it’s being killed is just stupid. It’s a massive, dangerous predator that can, will, and has killed human beings. That’s what they do. Look up “The Ghost and The Darkness” - true story based on the Lions of Tsavo river; these two monsters figured out it was easier to kill human beings than chase down gazelle, et al, and killed something like 120 people over a short period of time (back in the 1890s, during the building of a railroad).

Should he be fined for killing it, after luring it off the preserve? Dunno. Probably. Law’s law. Maybe they should be looking at the local folks who organized the “hunting” expedition as well.
I have no sympathy for the guy either - it’s not something I would ever do, unless my life was in immediate danger. But let’s keep it in perspective. People have been hunting and killing trophy animals for generations. It’s only an issue now because it’s another way to go after folks owning guns. Outlaw hunting, and you take away one more “need” for guns.
(Already know hunting has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment; it’s beside the point.)
In PA we have deer hunts, within season, within limits, and within established protocol that ensures that the herd is not destroyed. They can be a nuisance, and are a hazard to drivers. If there was no hunting, they’d starve to death from overpopulation, be destroyed by cars and trucks, other predators, etc.
Hunters are as much a part of nature as anything else. Man has been hunting his own food since our beginning. The only difference is the technology.
Everything is food for something else ultimately. Even us.
Thanks NF, I agree 100%
When I first moved in my (then) new neighborhood >10 years ago one of my neighbors gave me and others some deer meat from a kill he made hunting. I never had it before.
The problem here and I been complaining about it for >10 years, is too rapid development of open and wooded areas.
Forest after forest is destroyed to make new neighborhoods for (mainly Indian, Korean) immigrants (tax paying ones, yes,)
It causes havoc with the wildlife like deers, leaving little alternatives but hunting them.
It also requires more schools, wider roads, ...etc all costing tax $$$.
As long as I am not food for your family bro :)
Venison is good chow. I enjoy it.
So is buffalo, and “beefalo”, although I haven’t seen that for a while.
You murderer. You killed Bambie :)
Well.. think about it. We go in the ocean. There’s critters in the ocean (sharks come to mind immediately). We’re not at the top of the food chain in that element. We’re not adapted to it, we’re not made for rapid “get-outta-Dodge” movement in it. We’re sitting ducks.
Technology gives us an edge there, but not much. You may get Sharky No. 1 with the bang stick, but Sharky Nos. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 et al that come for the feeding frenzy have a different viewpoint.
Same with the lion. That Holland and Holland .600 Nitro Express in your hands is the only equalizer you have against him, in a one-on-one basis. He’s bigger, faster, stronger, and more ruthless than you can ever be.
Then think of Masai or Kikuyu tribesman killing them with spears.
Some critter in that encounter is going to be food, either way.
Haha!
“In one hand bread, the other a stone... the hunter enters the forest...”
Couldn't we all go Vegan like our ancestors were before they figured out how to make spears to hunt with?
(IN 2001 the Monolith taught them how to make crude weapons)
Like with global warming we could set a good example for nature.
“..Couldn’t we all go Vegan ...”
You’re still killing something else to make it food; Plants are living things as well. Just because they aren’t sentient, doesn’t mean they’re not alive.
No way around it. In order to eat, you have to acknowledge that something else stopped living to provide you with that chow.
Now, pass the ketchup for my burger and fries.
Lettuce is NOT people (or deer) you Bambie killer !!!
However I learned at the end of Soylent Green movie that Soylent Green is people.
“...Lettuce is NOT people (or deer) ...”
Haha!! You’re dancing now... my point was not whether lettuce is or isn’t equivalent to people; it’s simply that it’s life. And when you make that salad, you’ve taken something else (that was once living, growing, thriving) and turned it into food.
Cabbage -> Sauerkraut -> Hot Dog -> Yum.
Lettuce doesn't have a cute face or tail like Bambie and Snowball the bunny wabbit do.
You ever see that Carol Burnett where Eunice finds out from her sister that Momma killed her favorite pet bunny for family dinner (said it was chicken) when she was a kid ???
OMG, one of the funniest skits on TV. She freaked out it was hilarious. "Murderer, murderer,...!" LOLO
When I was young (much) a friend of mine a hunter raised domestic wabbits outside for food and we had a barbecue with a few.
They were pretty good tasting without that game-y taste.
No bugs either.
Carol Burnett Show- Family in the Attic, Part 1
Part 2 has the scene where she finds out that her pet bunny Fluffy was the family chicken dinner when she was a kid.
RE Carol Burnett: I do recall that one. It WAS hilarious.
Rabbits are good food. Had it a few times, enjoyed it.
Bison is good meat too. If you get a chance and can find Beefalo, try it. Lean and tasty.
And then... there’s TurDuckEn... Turkey stuffed with duck stuffed with chicken.
Mmmmm-MMMMMMMMMMMMMM!
I think the dentist has an outrageous “hobby,” but to extradite him would be unconscionable. The lion is a wild animal who would eat people.
OK I re-thought it.
We should ban hunting deer here because illegals are causing so much trouble.
Lets give deer American citizenship too, so they can vote.
RE “...to extradite him would be unconscionable. The lion is a wild animal who would eat people...”
Precisely the point.
