Donald Trump has something new to crow about.
The latest numbers from the Reuters/Ipsos five-day tracking poll has boastful billionaire as the presidential choice of almost 30 percent of Republicans surveyeda stratospheric mark given the fragmented presidential field.
Hes hitting a new high with the first Republican debate just days away: Aug. 6, in Cleveland, Ohio, where coverage of Trump before, during, and after the contest is likely grow even more feverish given the new numbers.
Trumps current surgehes been gaining strength meteorically all week, according to the pollhas knocked his closest rival, Jeb Bush, back behind him by almost 20 points. Bush sits at 11 percent, with the rest of contenders gasping for air at less than 8 percent.
At a week ago this time, the Reuters/Ipsos poll had Trump at just 15 percent.

So, if every Republican voter in Florida voted for Trump, it would still be a vote for Jeb Bush?
I confess. I don't understand the logic.
Yes, but that was closer to the election I would think.
I am never certain which poll is the most accurate...
I don't have the details at fingertips, but it's online.
Interesting. I will definitely have to try it. Didn’t know we could filter.
BTW, if Trump is getting the white male vote, that would go against the last one where he was winning Women more than men.
Well, we have heard a lot about this meeting...do you have an thoughts on it?
Interesting poll...saw it posted earlier...
Cruz is right there in the thick of it...top 4. But do we think Jindal is really that high? He could be, just don’t know.
What someone will do as a governor and what they will do as president can be two different things, and the issues are often different.
You need to find some other way to attack Trump than whining about detailed policies at this stage. For those who have listened carefully to his rambling speeches, he has already said far more than any other candidate about what he would do.
Secure the border, enforce immigration law, stop one-sided trade deals, and those policies will grow the economy and jobs, then implement welfare to workfare programs, and that is about the only way to tackle our budget deficits and debt.
Those few items are far more than anyone else has said, and would improve the US and its economy more than anything else that can be done.
No one else has even outlined a plan that can address the problems and begin to turn the nation around. The policies some are advocating caused the problems. Details from those candidates aren't worth considering.
Yes. Just watching the responses Cruz and Trump are giving the media when the media tries to get them to attack each other pretty much tells the whole story.
I love Ted too, and have donated five times to his campaign. I also voted for him in the series of elections in Texas which sent him to the U.S. Senate.
I'd love nothing better than to see him elevated to U.S. President in the next election, but I've got to temper those wishes with a strong dose of Reality.
Frankly, he hasn't been in the national eye long enough for most Americans to know him the way we Freepers do. If they know anything about him at all, it's that he did a 21 hour filibuster in the Senate, and talked about 'green eggs and ham'. Most have no idea how talented he is, or what an incredible record of public service he has.
But they sure know a lot about Donald Trump, and the message he's delivering is a pitch perfect segue to everything they already know about the man and his personal history. He's got a decades long reputation as the quintessential Boss who calls the shots, and is a winner of high stakes games. The attraction is practically irresistible, when we're talking about people choosing a new leader. He's a perfect fit at the most basic level.
In my view, the Republican field, including Ted Cruz, are all faced with moving an immovable mountain, in the form of Donald Trump. He brings things to the table that none of them possess, and can't hope to develop over the course of the primary. About the best they can hope for, is for Trump to destroy himself, because the political establishment nor the media can lay a glove on him.
It wont break that way...Bush and Rubio are favs here and all the rest will split the vote...remember this is a winner take all state. Bush can walk away with maybe 12% of the Florida vote and still win!
So, you think they are working in cahoots? To what end?
Look at the RCP polls taken after the “Liar speech”.
Cruz is doing fine, relatively. The Reuters poll is a scam. IMHO.
I always thought he was a little fat frump with his own white-board to write on.
Nobody knows how this is going to turn out in the end but so far, Trump's "big mouth" has clearly established himself as the clear front-runner and the voters are responding to him. He's got everybody's attention.
We've had other "rich businessmen" run before. Case in point was Steve Forbes. But Forbes was a quiet and polite man and all his billions could not gain him any traction (okay $500 million).
So being dignified and genteel gets you nowhere in politics. The Democrats have gotten plenty of rogues elected president, especially when we put up squares to run against them. It's time we had a rogue to call our own.
I love the way Trump is riling everybody up and making them pay attention to the race. If not for Trump, how many people (besides us on FR) would be yapping about the debate next week?
If anything, Trump has derailed the ¿Jeb? Bush coronation train and you have to love him for that.
Trump may have a big mouth, but so do all the rest of the wannabees and ALL of our politicians. They are self promoting, egotistical, hand out for your money kind of people. When they’re finished “serving” their constituents, do they come back to their “homes”. No, 99% of them stay in dc working the “new” politicians from their lobbyist positions.
That screenshot was from May 31-June 2. I don’t think Trump was even officially in the race yet. So basically it is meaningless.
But they are all professional politicians and are running on begged money and money “given” to them by the RNC, Nat’l
Chamber of Commerce, Lg Corporations, providing they follow the party line. We’ve had a lot of that kind of politician for too many elections.
Loving his rise!
Also defund NPR.
Trump is a battle hardened New York developer not a New Yorker.
The experience set between Giuliani and Trump are worlds apart.
Trump also has a very impressive track record.
Who knows what will happen next month. I just would not underestimate Trump. So far what the media said Trump would do has been 100% false. And all the candidates can do is call him names and not slow him down.
Very impressive.
We just have to wait and see how this plays out. Can’t wait to read his book and his plan due out August 6th.
