Has Donald Trump made his first serious boo-boo of the campaign?

For weeks, the media have trumpeted the supposed death of the Trump campaign. First, they claimed, Trump’s campaign imploded on launch thanks to his comments about illegal immigration. Then they claimed that Trump was finished because of his slap at Senator Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)43% ’s (R-AZ) war service. But neither of those comments alienated Trump’s base – he’s maintained his seven point lead over Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in the 2016 presidential polls, with no other candidate breaking double-digits in the polls. In fact, his original comments about illegal immigration launched his candidacy to prominence, with many Americans relieved that a major candidate had finally touched the media third rail and talked openly about illegal immigrant criminality.

Now, however, Trump may have damaged himself with the very people excited by his candidacy. Asked point blank about his immigration policy, Trump dropped the brashness and the blurting, and suddenly went completely Hillary-vague on CNN. After blathering about deporting criminal illegal immigrants – even President Obama pays lip service to this idea – Trump continued:

I saw the interview on CNN. He said we have to get the illegals out and expedite those people WHO ARE QUALIFIED back in LEGALLY. I am watching Fox (Megyn Kelly) and they are looking dense and stupid like they don’t get it. DUH? He was asked how he can find the bad illegals and he said we have to find them and politicians don’t have a clue how to do that. Fox News wants Jebby so bad they are doing the dishonest hit jobs now on Trump like they did on Newt Gingrich in 2012. I am not shocked to see the dishonesty after 2012.

I watched Megyn Kelly, too and I also saw the CNN interview.

Much ado about nitpicking by journalists and media that despise, fear and can't bully Trump!

At least Howie Kurtz got that fact! Voters don't give a rip about nitpicking.

Just curious why are you suddenly concerned with our borders and this invasion? Your posting history seems to indicate you had little concern about this invasion prior to Trump running. But you did say a few things on Pre-Trump candidacy threads.

I agree with all of your comments on this thread as I agree with your comments generally. I especially agree with your comments in this reply which echo comments I made as long ago as May 22:

Donald Trump is the poster boy for violating Ronald Reagan's 11th commandment. He will tear the image of all the debaters and all candidates down in his narcissistic ambition. Romney did it, yes, but Trump gets personal.

My core objection to Donald Trump is that he is an ideological loose cannon. He cannot be defined as conservative because he is sui generis which is a kind way of saying, a narcissist. He is much in the mode of Ross Perot in many respects including personality traits as well as ideological confusion.

There is also a great deal of ideological confusion among the electorate, hence the appeal of the Ross Perots and the Donald Trumps. Many people believe that political parties are the problem, that an outsider is the solution. The solution is a conservative who can come from outside, or inside, or from Mars as far as I'm concerned but he must hold true to conservatism.

Donald Trump is simply not conservative, he is an opportunist but he is an ideological and philosophical opportunist as well as an opportunist of personal ambition. He is not a deep thinker, he is ignorant of history, he is akin to any huckster, like Bill Clinton, who can read an audience and summon up the sociopathic skills necessary to persuade by pandering. Some of those emotional hot buttons about which he panders include issues with which you and I both agree such as our trade relations with China but about which I decline to be bamboozled.

They are denied voting privledges. Ownership of land in their own name, and selected access to government services. Worse if entering that country illegaly. Then face steep fines and jail time before getting kicked out.
