The outrage over Cecil's death is absurd when you think of the other, bigger problems which people are happy to ignore
There is a new, pointless ride opening in town designed to give users an instant but ephemeral rush. It isnt the slide down the ugly, unnecessary Olympic tower, but the convenient and free outrage bus currently stopping on your street and picking up passengers for Cecil, the beautiful dead lion.
Out of any and all proportion to the severity of his dreadful act of animal murder, the dentist who killed Cecil has become an international focal point of hate and anger. As wars are waged, women are raped, young men commit suicide, boats in the Mediterranean sink and desperate homeless migrants head for Calais, its Cecil who commands our hearts unwarranted levels of our attention.

This week’s episode of “Two Minutes Hate”.
ISIS is killing people by the thousands and cutting off their heads as trophies. We get one minute of news a week on that one.
The MSM would not cover the Planned Parenthood videos even if the only other story of the day was a puppy being hit by a car in Capetown.
This story has its own legs. The MSM will cut off the legs of any story that puts liberalism in a bad light. We don't have to ignore a story like this one in order to complain about the media ignoring stories like the Planned Parenthood videos. They are going to ignore it. Get used to it.
I hope her teeth fall out!! That would be justice!!
I think anyone who would pay $55,000 to kill a single animal is a psychopath.
Seriously, why does anyone care about this unless they are a bleeding heart liberal who thinks “Lion King” was a documentary? Lions die every day, and if they don’t then it’s the zebras, gazelle or hyenas they need for food, usually cute little baby zebras or gazelle; this is nature. Africa is a place of utter corruption, so saying he may have broken a law shows a serious misunderstanding of how the rule of law works or is even understood in this part of the world. For all the people calling this guy a coward, I’d like to see them go after a lion armed with only a bow; going after one with a rifle is risky enough.
I have no doubt that ‘Cecil’ would have eaten every last one of the idiots who are now trumpeting his ‘name’ like a martyr.........................
I agree with your comments.
The truth is that no one really knows at this time whether what this was an illegal kill or not.
Let’s give it some time and hopefully, the Zimbabwean authorities will do a proper investigation. If it’s found out that Walter Palmer broke the law, he’ll have to answer for it.
But in the meanwhile, people out there need to leave this alone - regardless of whether they’re protesting in front of the guy’s office or posting their drivel on Facebook.
Mark Levin. Yesterday afternoon.
So if they would have let him kill a hundred, you'd be okay with it?
He's no hero, but there are lot worse people in the world than poachers.
Like say, people who buy and sell the organs of infants.
True, like we can only handle outrage at a time. This guy is a pussy!
I have to laugh when they say how famous this lion was.
Four days ago, these people who are so outraged had no idea who Cecil the lion was. And some of these people don’t even know where Zimbabwe is. Yet they are so outraged about alleged violations of Zimbabwe game and hunting regulations. A subject which a week ago they had no knowledge about and no interest in.
It’s been funny how the media goes into overkill saturation coverage of some stories.
This story has no impact on anyone’s lives. The hunting and safari business in Africa has no impact on any of our lives. Yet this story, fueled by a media frenzy surrounding it, has become big international news. I just don’t understand.
Levin, of course.. But I meant in the news rooms or in congress.
This isn’t the same Jimmy Kimmel that used to host “The Man Show.”
People pay millions for baseball cards, paintings, cars they will never drive, etc.
What's particularly silly about this is that he paid to steal something.
“Four days ago, these people who are so outraged had no idea who Cecil the lion was.”
I have to admit, I thought Cecil was the seasick dragon that Beanie hung out with, and I thought the most famous lion was Clarence, the cross-eyed lion..
“...the dentist who killed Cecil has become an international focal point of hate and anger.”
There certainly does seem to be plenty to go around these days.
