Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, 71, still likes to wake and bake.
But he's fussy about where the weed comes from.
"I smoke regularly, an early morning joint. Strictly Californian," The Independent reports the musician told Mojo magazine for its September issue.
Richards, who is currently promoting his solo album "Crosseyed Heart," also remarked on the spread of marijuana legalization in the United States.
"One of the most pleasant things to watch is a map of America where it goes, green ... green ... green ... green," The Independent reports he said. "Whether its a good thing in the long run, I dont know."

He's going to outlive all of them. When vegetarian health-nuts Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney pass away, Richards will be attending their funerals.
There's not another band in the world that can get out on the stage, live, and replicate everything they did in the Studio.
When asked what the hardest part about the 40 Licks tour a few years ago, Keith said it was trimming the play list down.
They had 300 songs ready to go and had to cut the list down to 75 or so that they would work in depending on how they sensed the mood of the venue.
Just wow.
Weekend at Keith’s, LOL
Ping!
Read his Autobiography, “Life”, amazing read, he is actually pretty sharp considering all the drugs. I think some of it is more of an act that anything.
Jagger had a "scared straight" moment as a young man following a notorious drug bust when the Stones were first climbing to fame in the mid 60s. Frightened of a long prison sentence (proper English lads of Jagger's upbringing don't go to prison), he's pretty much steered clear of drugs nearly his whole career.
Richards, on the other hand...
Not only is he rolling the doobies but he’s rolling in the greens.
That was a genuinely well written book. One of the best autobiographies I have ever read, and I have read a lot of them!
Trash? The guy does drugs, lots of people do things they should not do, I do not know too many people stay at the top of their field for 50 years, that IS an accomplishment.
Well, he at least seems to be committed to long term relationships...

Richards maintains cordial relations with Italian-born actress Anita Pallenberg, the mother of his first three children. Richards and Pallenberg, who never married, were a couple from 1967 to 1979.
Together they have a son, Marlon Leon Sundeep (named after the actor Marlon Brando), born in 1969,[70] and a daughter, Angela (originally named Dandelion), born in 1972.[71] Their third child, a son named Tara Jo Jo Gunne (after Richards' and Pallenberg's friend Guinness heir Tara Browne), died on 6 June 1976 at just over two months old of SIDS (or, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).[72] Richards was away on tour at the time, something which he said has haunted him since.[73]
Later in 1979, Richards met his future wife, model Patti Hansen.
They married on 18 December 1983, Richards' 40th birthday, and have two daughters, Theodora Dupree and Alexandra Nicole, born in 1985 and 1986 respectively. In March 2014, it was reported that Richards was writing a children's book with Theodora, Gus and Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar. Theodora was reported as contributing pen and ink illustrations for the book, which was inspired by the man she's named after (Richards' grandfather Theodore Augustus Dupree).[74]
Richards still owns Redlands, the Sussex estate he purchased in 1966, as well as a home in Weston, Connecticut and another in the private resort island of Parrot Cay, Turks & Caicos.[75][76] His primary home is in Weston.[77] In June 2013, Richards said that he would retire with his family to Parrot Cay or Jamaica if he knew his death was coming.[78] Keith Richards has five grandchildren,[79] three from his son Marlon and two from his daughter Angela.[80]
He is an avid reader with a strong interest in history and owns an extensive library.[81][82] An April 2010 article revealed that Richards yearns to be a librarian.[83]

“Richards has looked like death warmed over for years.”
Ron Woods isn’t looking too good either.

Just like a smoked trout or a piece of beef jerky; he’ll last almost forever!

You know, based on both your comments, I think I'm going to buy that book! And I am NOT much of a book reader, through and through anyway. I think I've read only 2 books in my entire life cover to cover. I'm more into books as research tools to skim through.
And I agree with you, dfwgator. I think a large part of it is just an act. Gotta maintain that 'super cool' legendary rock guitarist image. To me, and a lot of others I'm sure, they remain the best rock band of all time. And that is really saying something, given the long list of great ones.
I wish I had could have gone to their concert in Dallas in June. I heard it was fabulous, the best ever. Tough birds.
The man is clearly one of the best bluesmen/rocker of the 20th century.

The guy that really amazes me is Charlie Watts. Dude is 74, and still plays the hell out of the drums.
If you’re smoking dope in your teens or twenties you’re stupid. If you’re doing so in your seventies you’re a *loser*.
