Mitch McConnell is facing truckloads of criticism after he blocked a law that would defund Planned Parenthood, including from presidential candidate Ted Cruz, who called McConnell a liar on the Senate floor (and rightly so). And for some insane reason, this apparently made Brit Hume at Fox News lose his mind, because Hume decided to respond by attacking Cruz and labeling him a hypocrite.
Hi, Bret. The first thing you need to know about Ted Cruzs assault on Mitch McConnell is that its not about ted Cruz and Mitch McConnell. Its about ted Cruz and Donald Trump. Cruz entered the presidential race as the renegade hero of the anti-establishment right, the man who would call out his partys leadership for what he considered their weak-kneed ways. He raised some serious money early on, but his campaign never quite took off.
Then along comes Donald Trump who not only cruised past Cruz but everyone else in the Republican field. He did it while attacking his fellow republicans with abandon. When Trump himself was under attack for denigrating John McCains war record, Cruz refused to criticize Trump. He insisted his stance was born of fidelity to the eleventh commandment made famous by Ronald Reagan, thou shall not speak ill of any fellow republican. Last Thursday on this channel he went so far as to tell Neil Cavuto scripture teaches that if someone visits evil upon you, you should repay them in kindness. Thats from first peter, chapter 3.
Two days later ted Cruz is on the Senate floor calling Republican leader McConnell a liar. So much for Ronald Reagan and so much for Saint Peter.
It may have shown Cruz to be an obvious hypocrite, but for one day at least he trumped Trump and that means mission accomplished.
Is Trump paying Hume off or something? Because absent that, this entire rant is completely nonsensical and makes no sense — why should we not call out GOP leadership when they renege on a promise and so utterly fail us?
B. Hume is for Jebbie Bush. He doesn’t like D. Trump either judging from some of the remarks. And for sure he does not like T. Cruz. Ah, such sour grapes.
There’s one good thing about all of this gas letting, it has certainly shown where all the players stand on the liberal/conservative spectrum.
All of the Fox News senior analysts (Hume, Will, Krauthammer) are Inside-The-Beltway members of what Cruz calls "The Washington Cartel".
He is correct as usual. Trump is ALSO a member of this group and has lined the pockets of phony politicians on both sides of the aisle for decades.
IMHO, Ted Cruz is the only presidential candidate who is a real insurrectionist and has not bent the knee to the globalists.
I hope he has a great security detail.
1- I’m a huge Cruz supporter, have donated, will continue to donate.
2- Why not take Hume’s observations at face value?
- Did Ted’s action conflict with his earlier citations of Reagan and St. Peter?
3- I could argue that Ted’s blistering of Mitch wasn’t about a personal wrong, but an institutional wrong that he had an obligation to reveal.
...and beyond that obligation, it explains why Ted voted as he did, believing Mitch was going to provide the opportunity to counter some of Obama’s efforts.
So, no need to go to war with Brit, or accept his critique, as there is room for discussion and clarification.
Brit is like the establishment repubs. He wants to cash in on all the goodies with no work involved. His heart does not look like it is in his job anymore. He looks totally burned out.
nobody is discussing any confirmation that McConnell did in fact lie.
I did!
And then I ran!
Fox News has not been my favorite cable news channel for quite some time now ;/
I have lost most if not all respect for Brit Hume over the years. Now it has got to the point that I cannot stand to watch him.
I think it’s way past time to drop the “Reagan’s 11th commandment” thing.
Cruz did exactly what he’s known for, calling out the establishment for their corruption and lies. So far he’s the only one doing it, at least till Trump showed up.
Not speaking ill of other Republicans means letting them get away with lying to us, caving in to corporate lobbyists and special interest groups, handing Obama exactly what he wants, usually on a silver platter...
And as usual Cruz did it with style...Hume can take a hike. Cruz did what every member of Congress should have been doing for a long time. And instead of backing him up, when they know he’s right, they ignore it and attack him because they don’t want to piss off their big money donors. That or Boehner and McConnel have enough dirt on most of them to force them to shut up...
I didn’t see the original commentary, just clips of it later, but I got the drift...Hume is wrong. Cruz did the right thing, something most in Congress know nothing about.
Hume has just become another member of the good old boys club. Sad to see him go that way.
Brit Hume is pulling for Jeb Bush.
Nope he is for Donald!! The rich guy!

..if only t*ts were brains.
I miss Tony Snow.
He understood how to have a conversation with respect.
I lost respect for Brit Hume way back in 1999 when, back in his ABC days, he came out for the Clinton/Blair clique’s criminal attack on Yugoslavia, despite his previous guest’s (Pat Buchanan) principled opposition to this disgrace. He ruined his conservative street cred after that.
We should remind ourselves that most of the media conservatives that we trust for news and analysis (excepting perhaps Mark Levin and Rush) are elitists first and conservatives second (or not really conservative). When the peons demand to be heard, elitists unite and ideology be damned.
Brit is the epitome of this dynamic. His impulses are conservative, but at his core, Brit is a card carrying elitist. Any movement toward government by the people provokes an elitist backlash from Brit and his ilk.
We are finding out who would have revolted against England and who would run from the fight. The fight against injustice, against a lack of representation, is the same.
That would be Rupert Murdock paying Hume who is behind it. Easy to figure why Fox management wants to cause dissent.
Hume figures their guy Bush would benefit and so thinks Murdock.
I lost what little respect I had left for Brit when he jumped in the tank for Obamugabe’s operation flooding the country with the hordes of illegal “children”.
