Bloomberg: Donald Trump is overstating his wealth by more than $7 billion
Business Insider ^ | 07/28/2015 | Colin Campbell

Real-estate magnate Donald Trump frequently touts his wealth on the presidential campaign trail. But a new report essentially accuses the GOP candidate of overstating his net worth by billions of dollars.

Bloomberg reporters Caleb Melby and Richard Rubin, citing an analysis by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, reported Thursday that Trump was actually worth about $2.9 billion.

That's more than $7 billion less than Trump has said.

In a statement earlier this month, Trump's campaign wrote that the real-estate developer and television personality has seen his net worth rocket upward even in just the past year.

"Real-estate values in New York City, San Francisco, Miami, and many other places where he owns property have gone up considerably during this period of time," the Trump campaign said, referring to an earlier $8.7 billion figure from the year before.

The statement continued: "His debt is a very small percentage of value, and at very low interest rates. As of this date, Mr. Trump's net worth is in excess of TEN BILLION DOLLARS."

One of Trump's leading spokesmen, Michael Cohen, subsequently said $10 billion was actually a conservative estimate. Cohen, an executive vice president and special counsel to Trump's organization, said in a CNN interview that Trump's empire of golf resorts, luxury hotels, and other properties was on prime real estate and could easily be valued at an even higher price. (Trump has also made money from his Miss Universe Organization beauty pageants and hosting "The Apprentice" and "Celebrity Apprentice," among other high-profile activities.)

"I consider myself to be an expert in real estate," Cohen said. "I can tell you that $10 billion number, in my estimation, is low. Because I know the value of New York City real estate. You're talking about the prime properties. You're talking about Fifth Avenue."

For the record, the only Republican I will vote for besides Trump is Cruz. The rest are nothing but politically correct sell out Rats.

Let's see if the establishment RINOs are waking up to this reality. I believe what you expressed is the sentiment of tens of millions of voters.

I agree.

BTW another Trump Hater posted this exact same article, again. They sneer at other ‘less pure’ minions for being stupid. Guess a simple search is just too much.

Yea, so he's got 3 billion to run a 200 million dollar campaign.

This from Bloomberg.

Perhaps. I could see Trump helping Cruz. I think there’s also a risk that Trump could end up hurting Cruz, depending on how closely Cruz associates himself with Trump before Trump’s (inevitable, in my humble opinion) meltdown.

Obviously, there is also the point that Trump’s candidacy is, itself, bringing up important issues that may not have been discussed otherwise. I get that.

But the prospect of him actually serving as President of the United States? Nah.

The perfect scenario would be Trump at the height of his support getting up and saying “I have gotten to know Ted Cruz, and after getting to know him, I believe he is the best man to be President”.

Then Trump serves as Cruz’s Secretary of Commerce.

LoL Michael Bloomberg likes guess who? And endorses him.

JebBber Booosh.

Michael Bloomberg Declares His Friend Jeb Bush the Best GOP Candidate

"Bloomberg was attending a party in his honor after receiving an honorary knighthood from from Queen Elizabeth II. During the party, at which Bloomberg said he had “always admired the sophistication and fortitude of the British people,” the former mayor also singled out Bush and Clinton as the only two candidates for him. “Hillary and Jeb are the only two who know how to make the trains run,” said Bloomberg.

Bloomberg’s first-name-basis relationship with Bush...."

Nonsense. Jindal, Walker and Perry are good candidates too. I would not put any of them in a category of ‘RINOS’. If you are looking for per perfect Jesus Christ is your man. Donald Trump is only good in one or two issues, and bombastic to boot. Ted Cruz is a great orator and good on nearly every issue - but he is not perfect either.

It is time we get serious. I would hope no one on this board wants to have a President Hillary Clinton in 2017. As far as I am concerned, Cruz, Walker, Jindal, and Perry are all serious candidates, and worth supporting.

Well I’m done with Donald. I was only going to vote for him because of the $9 billion. LOL!

Why is it that the MSM is only concerned when Republicans mis-speak/mis-represent (if that is even the case with Trump)?

I can't see that happening. Trump has a humongous ego (as I think most people of his stature in business would). I'm not sure that he would be willing to walk away from the race "at the height of his support," or really even at any point where he still enjoys significant support. More likely is that he will only withdraw if and when his support has already eroded, at which point his supporters would have already picked a different horse (likely Cruz, for many but not necessarily all), and his endorsement may or may not be worth all that much anymore.

We'll see, though. Should be interesting to watch.

What about Hillary?! She claimed to be dead broke, which is just one of her many outright lies.

But does Trump really want to be President? Or does he just want to be the “straw that stirs the drink”?

Who knows?

when Bloomberg talks, people are safe to assume he is lying.

(ie the way his company spied on users of the stock market Bloomberg terminals)

Strange.. they attacked Romney for being too wealthy ( $200 million )

Now, they attack Trump for NOT being as wealthy as he said.

Still NO response from Bloomberg to the issues that Trump gives voice to.

I think we’ve already seen the impact Trump has had on other candidates. Cruz has taken his game up a notch, even Huckabee is starting to show some brass ones. And I think we are beginning to see Cruz get himself into position to lead a revolt in the GOP, perhaps even getting other Senators to go along and defect from the GOP to start a new party. I think a lot of Senators are sick and tired of the GOPe leadership, but are afraid to speak out, as Cruz has. I think behind the scenes, Cruz is recruiting them to potentially bolt with him.

And I think Trump’s success has sent a clear signal that the time for revolt is nigh.

But Trump is useful for Cruz, he’s setting the table.

Yup! Bingo!

It's so amazingly obvious that I'm surprised that more people can't connect the dots. Trump is illuminating key important issues, and Cruz is reinforcing Trump's arguments. Eventually, Eventually Trump will fade into the background, leaving Cruz in center stage.
