Kill Trump's third-party threat: Republican Party chief wants all GOP candidates to pledge not to run as independents but only one might
Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus says every GOP White House hopeful 'should pledge not to run as a third-party candidate' He was responding to threats from front-runner Donald Trump to undercut the party if Priebus and others don't show him more respect 'I think everyone understands that if Hillary Clinton's going to get beat, she's going to get beat by a Republican,' Priebus said Trump walked back the notion of a break with the party after some conciliatory gestures from the RNC The chairman of the Republican National Committee said Monday that every GOP candidate for president 'should pledge not to run as a third-party candidate,' a not-so-subtle reference to Donald Trump's threat ot breaking off and doing things his own way as an independent.
Trump, the undisputed front-runner, said last week that he wouldn't rule out running as a third-party candidate and freezing the GOP out of his meteoric rise if the party didn't start treating him better.
'Certainly, I think our candidates should pledge not to run as a third-party candidate,' RNC bigwig Reince Priebus said Monday on NBC's 'TODAY' show. But he quickly added that 'I don't see that happening' and 'I dont fear that.'
'I think everyone understands that if Hillary Clintons going to get beat, she's going to get beat by a Republican,' Priebus said. 'And most people that run for president run to win, and if our candidates want to win, then they'll have to run as a Republican.'

There are children running the Republican Party. No wonder Trump is rolling over them.
LOL!
Very true!
Yes, actually it should be the other way around. The RNC/GOPe should agree to Trump's threats.
They're real good at being pushed around, caving, and getting blackmailed.
Besides, when Trump says something, he doesn't back down.
Of course, the upcoming primaries were only supposed to be a formality until this rogue Trump came along.
Since 1968, these have been the choices that the conventional Republican Party have made for us with regard to presidential nominee, not counting re-election years as that's redundant:
1968 - Nixon
1976 - Ford
1980 - Bush Sr (until RR upset their plans)
1988 - Bush Sr
1996 - Dole
2000 - Bush Jr
2008 - McCain
2012 - Romney
2016 - ¿Jeb?
Well, we just had a chance but McConnell didn't allow it.
That’s why I say, if anything, Reagan was the RINO. The others are typical Republicans.
GOPee needs to pledge to only support Constitutionally oriented canidate.
Many states already have that, or have the registration dates such that a move to independent after the primary is prevented.

GOPe is in PURE PANIC MODE.... LOL! I love it!
************
Exactly right. Its not just that Trump won’t kowtow to them; he is also exposing them for their weakness, hypocrisy, and failures. He’s making them look bad, and deservedly so.
Just like he does with his real estate projects, Trump is razing the old building and has plans for a new one. lol
Since the GOPe is not in the best position to force a deal, I think as a gesture of goodwill they should do whatever is necessary to FIRE Boehner & McConnell and replace them with conservatives. Then we can talk about pledges.
What you say? Never.
Ok. Guess we’ve got to burn the party down and rebuild from scratch. No other alternatives.
a vote for a 3rd party is simply an adult version of a temper tantrum. it was for Perot in 1992. it was for Nader in 2000.
the problem with any protest vote like those is that in the one-in-a-billion chance that the 3rd party candidate wins, he wouldn’t be able to govern. the House and Senate will still be 100% GOP and ‘RAT. well, 99.8% if you account for Bernie Sanders. both parties will be pissed off. there will be nobody to push the presidential agenda in congress.
so it may feel good to vote for an outsider, but nothing good can come from it.
i’m not saying to hold your nose and vote for a RINO either. i’ve been there, done that, got the t-shirt and the shaft in the process. in fact, i don’t know what the right thing to do will be if it’s The Bitch vs. JEB. this is the problem with politics. it’s always an either/or proposition and that leave no wiggle room when both options are horrific. i don’t have an answer yet. as much as i would want to write in Sarah Palin’s name, that would be a temper tantrum too... a wasted vote in a swing state.
Rove has been pushing this meme for some time. And the NSM is aiding and abetting the effort. No other candidate is being asked the question and no doubt, every other Rep candidate would gladly sign the pledge. They really have no other choice. Trump does.
Rinse the GOP of Trump? Prebus needs to get on some meds. He might do himself harm.
I don’t support this.
I am not a Trump supporter either.
If the GOP nominates Jeb Bush, then I would like to be able to vote for a third party candidate, assuming that is one that I support, otherwise I will vote for Clinton, because quite frankly, I have had it with the stinking rat infested GOP.
ROTFLOLOLOLOL.
Yeah, I know. What idiots they are...they say they want a Republican to win........YET they have a Winner already...actually two winners.
Such confusion, oh my. About that pledge, what happens IF one of them breaks the pledge? TIME OUT? This is getting so funny to watch.
Except for increasing your self-esteem and being able to look into a mirror and say that you have integrity and a sense of values. No more holding your nose and vote for the Uniparty.
I would assert that it might not be a wasted vote. Yes, the Dems may win (some would say for certain), but if we simply get more Rino’s, there isn’t much difference between them and the dems.
However, if we can finally kill off the current GOPe by sacrificing this election, then we have the opportunity to rebuild for the next election.
Some feel that this is our last chance, and that might be true, but GOPe have proven they cannot be trusted to turn this thing around anymore. If you truly believe this is our last chance, then you should quite bashing Trump and start putting the squeeze on the GOPe to nix the lame leadership we have and figure out how to use Trump / Cruz / Paul to the benefit of the Country and the party.
As a side note....I also felt just like you, not long ago. However, I’ve voted that way during the past 2 election cycles, and nothing has changed. I refuse to compromise my principles anymore, and just vote for the lesser of two evils. Call me naive, but this is the stand I’ll make.
