Kill Trump's third-party threat: Republican Party chief wants all GOP candidates to pledge not to run as independents – but only one might

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus says every GOP White House hopeful 'should pledge not to run as a third-party candidate' He was responding to threats from front-runner Donald Trump to undercut the party if Priebus and others don't show him more respect 'I think everyone understands that if Hillary Clinton's going to get beat, she's going to get beat by a Republican,' Priebus said Trump walked back the notion of a break with the party after some conciliatory gestures from the RNC The chairman of the Republican National Committee said Monday that every GOP candidate for president 'should pledge not to run as a third-party candidate,' a not-so-subtle reference to Donald Trump's threat ot breaking off and doing things his own way – as an independent.

Trump, the undisputed front-runner, said last week that he wouldn't rule out running as a third-party candidate and freezing the GOP out of his meteoric rise if the party didn't start treating him better.

'Certainly, I think our candidates should pledge not to run as a third-party candidate,' RNC bigwig Reince Priebus said Monday on NBC's 'TODAY' show. But he quickly added that 'I don't see that happening' and 'I don’t fear that.'

'I think everyone understands that if Hillary Clinton’s going to get beat, she's going to get beat by a Republican,' Priebus said. 'And most people that run for president run to win, and if our candidates want to win, then they'll have to run as a Republican.'

So GOPe are you going to give all the candidates a fair shake or are you going to have a favorite like you have always done in the past?

Trump is evidently out of some GOP event in New Hampshire, most likely due to behind the shenanigans of the RNC.

Why, then, should Trump agree to anything proposes by the RNC going forward?

However, conservative voters are no longer welcome in the Republican Party, so we Independent Conservatives want to vote for our own candidate.

Sounds like somebody is deathly afraid somebody might upset the GOP establishment’s to anoint yet another quisling Bush.

They don’t even recognize if they succeeded in their PAC-backed plan, this Bush would lose anyway.

This shows us how scared the GOPe is of conservatives.

As an addendum, I in no way believe Trump is conservative or a viable candidate. But I do support his right to show the entirety of what used to be the collective cooperating Republican electorate what our real clear and present dangers are.

The fact is that conservatives aren’t ‘Republicans’ in the mien of today’s establishment GOP. They are, in fact, at drastic odds with each other. This putz’s pledge demand is a clear indication of that Great Divide.

Technically, it would be a SECOND party threat.

They want him to run as a Republican, but even if he goes to the Convention as the massive voter favorite, they will not nominate him. And they will lose!

Classic.

The time when you negotiate an arms treaty is when you are weak and cannot keep up with the technological change of your potential opponents. This is a lesson from history. The GOP is potentially backing themselves into a corner where they may have to get behind Trump or lose. Let there be no doubt, they would prefer to lose in that circumstance.

Even though I hope he doesn’t run third party, the only way Trump can discipline the GOPe and keep them from doing backroom deals against him that bypass the normal process is to keep that threat alive.

“he quickly added that ‘I don’t see that happening’ “

So the article is both stupid and moot to boot?

Priebus said. 'And most people that run for president run to win, and if our candidates want to win, then they'll have to run as a Republican.'

Well actually if the goal is just to win ... then the best strategy is to run as a democrat. They have the lock on many states like New York, California and Illinois as well as the illegal alien votes and years of experience in dirty tricks.
