Real estate magnate Donald Trump moved to the top of the 2016 Republican presidential field in a CNN poll released on Sunday, edging out rival Jeb Bush...

Trump was backed by 18% of Republicans in the CNN poll, which was conducted entirely after his July 18 criticism of Republican Senator John McCain's war record. His lead over Bush, a former Florida governor who was at 15%, was within the poll's margin of error. ...

peaked on 7/16-19 and has now stalled.

That's wishful thinking. Trump has awakened the great silent majority in this country and it's looking around and seeing the destruction the DC elites in both parties have wrought on our culture, our economy and standing in the world and they're pretty pissed off.

FR is full of different people with the same political leanings.

Unfortunately, I have found trolls and long time “Freepers” who are also faggot lovers and leftwingers but this disagreement is small when it comes to Trump.

Then go with Cruz. He is sticking it to McConnell and on the Senate floor no less, which no one does. No one does to their own party’s majority leader like Cruz did. Ever.

Romney had a 51% negative in the polls and that was after he had secured the nomination and after the GOP primaries.

Trump has negatives in the stratospheric Hillary range and this is before the GOP primaries have even begun.

Cruz is and has been in the top 10 in almost all polls up to date. Even the Donald sucking wind from our side, Cruz will be heard at the first debate.

Seems like most of the food thrown on this site is at Trump? Most of us like to see a candidate fight back.

"It takes more than voters who identify as Republican to win the White House, so look to national polls that are more than just registered voters who identify as Republican.

BTW, Trump has negatives that are at Hillary levels. With that in mind...

... If I am not mistaken, Romney was at 51% negative in national polls but that was after he had secured the nomination and went through the GOP primaries - not before them."

Yup.

http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/2016-national-gop-primary

But the trajectory is good. All of Trump's numbers are going in the positive direction, including his "negatives". During the Republican nomination process, all smart Republican candidates appeal to Republican voters, and focus on their Republican competitors.

In order to skew a poll, CNN can add independents to give garbage data.

Trump is dominating a 16 person race, 40% of Republicans choose him as first or second.

When Trump secures the nomination, the same skill set he uses to become the nominee, he'll use to win the White House.

For Trump to win primaries and caucuses, he has to resonate on his message:
He's the smartest, most competent, most able.
His competitors are undesirable, and not smart, not able, not competent.
His ideas are the best.

Hillary is not immune to this strategy, she has just been spared the media glare, and the wrath of Trump. In swing states, she has been imploding however.

Prediction: Hillary will not be the Democratic nominee. And if she is, and faces Trump in a two party race, he clobbers her.

I am with Cruz. Trump has struck a nerve with the American people and I admire him for it. I admire the way he has not withered one inch in the face of the media and establishment onslaught against him. I think Cruz should take up the same battles. So far so good.

Trump will be embarrassed in the debates, pull out and run as a 3rd party candidate, pull a significant percentage of Republican voters, and hand the election to Hillary.

Trump runs as a loser?

Yeah, he's done that his whole life!

Seesh,

Hiya, Balding_Eagle. Certainly is interesting to watch this large field of Republicans, a few of whom I believe are actual conservatives. I’d like to see Bobby Jindal do better, but I think he entered the race too late. In addition, his positions sound a lot like Ted Cruz’s, so he’s in Cruz’s shadow.
