Senior Republicans rebuke Cruz over his attacks on McConnell
Yahoo News ^ | July 26, 2015

Posted on 07/26/2015 3:57:42 PM PDT by Din Maker

As the Senate met for a rare Sunday session, Sens. Orrin Hatch of Utah, Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and John Cornyn of Texas each rose to counter a stunning floor speech Cruz gave on Friday accusing McConnell, R-Ky., of lying.

None of them mentioned Cruz by name but the target of their remarks could not have been clearer. The drama came as the Senate defeated a procedural vote to repeal President Barack Obama's health care law and took a step toward reviving the federal Export-Import Bank, both amendments on a must-pass highway bill.

"Squabbling and sanctimony may be tolerated in other venues and perhaps on the campaign trail, but they have no place among colleagues in the United States Senate," said Hatch, the Senate's president pro tempore. Cruz is running for president.

"The Senate floor has even become a place where senators have singled out colleagues by name to attack them in personal terms, to impugn their character, in blatant disregard for Senate rules," Hatch said. "Such misuses of the Senate floor must not be tolerated."

After Hatch spoke, Cruz rose to defend himself for making the accusation that McConnell had lied when he denied striking a deal to allow the vote to revive the Export-Import Bank.

He said he agreed with Hatch's calls for civility but declared, "Speaking the truth about actions is entirely consistent with civility."

And far from backing down, Cruz reiterated his complaint about McConnell. "My saying so may be uncomfortable but it is a simple fact, entirely consistent with decorum, and no member of this body has disputed that promise was made and that promise was broken."

“We’ve got a long ways to go before were happy.”

Sure do!

I am a little bit happy just watching Trump blister some rumps without breaking a sweat :)

This...THIS is why the entire country is getting behind Trump. Party absolutely does NOT matter when neither side is willing to stand for the truth nor for the rule of law. The GOP is dead in the water.

PS “The Donald” is a bull in a China Closet.”

Or a dog in the field
When you are at home trying to take it easy, a quail/pheasant bird dog that barks all the time, howls and runs around all over your place, raising hell & tongue hanging out ... he’s a PITA.

But when you’re hunting and and this dog is ranging all over the place, always in motion, beating & blocking and scaring up more birds than any of the other dogs, well, then he’s your best dog.

You may have to pepper his ass with #8 shot every now and then, but that just spurs him on. Good boy!

If one of these was your Senator, please burn their phone lines tomorrow and tell them to face the truth and stop acting like children. Burn the lines.

This is a very wise saying, especially the line on choosing your enemies.

A trio of dimocrat hacks with RINOs for their pin names. Worthless pieces of crap that these states send to the Senate. I THANK GOD THAT I HAVE JEFF SESSIONS AS MY SENATOR! The other one is a RINO, a former dim, who jumped ship back when Alabama started voting republican and not socialist dimocrats any more. He knew he would never win as a dim in this state again, so he turned republican yet remains a liberal hack himself. I never vote for him when his time comes around. But, Senator Sessions always gets our votes. One of the few that I still vote for.

Senior senators may rebuke Cruze but senior voters won’t.

Don’t blame me, I didn’t vote for Cornyn. I wrote in Ted Cruz name instead. I encourage all Texas to refrain from voting for Cornyn next time.

Well I won’t back down
No I won’t back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won’t back down

No I’ll stand my ground, won’t be turned around
And I’ll keep this world from draggin me down
gonna stand my ground
... and I won’t back down

Cruz acquitted himself admirably in his response.

Who cares if Cruz wipes the floor with McConnel?

Cruz showed that the rules are invoked by GOP-e only for GOP-e's benefit.

While Cruz cited the Majority Leader's duplicity to make his case, his central theme was that the rules continue to be used to protect favored corporate-welfare projects and not for items the GOP-e finds annoying, such as demanding Iran release the four US prisoners or defunding Planned Parenthood.

You and I may agree to disagree about this, but I think Cruz said something that needed to be said both because it is correct and because it shows primary voters a difference between his positions and those of the GOP-e.
