But he said the country should take a different approach with "the other ones" i.e., undocumented immigrants who are already in the country who have "done a good job." "I'm a very big believer in merit system," Trump said. "I have to tell you ... some of these people have been here, they've done a good job. You know, in some cases, sadly, they've been living under the shadows, etc., etc. We have to do something. So whether it's merit or whether it's whatever, but I'm a believer in the merit system. If somebody's been outstanding, we try and work something out.

Actually, what he has suggest is that he'd consider 3rd party if he isn't treated fairly. First, it doesn't me he will do it. Second, treat him obviously and above board fair and square and he'll not do it.
Now, I wouldn't blame him if the GOP cheated him out of the nomination the way they did McDaniels in Mississippi. Those were operative based attacks, so that the party could claim clean hands. Trump won't put up with cheating through cut-outs.
He's well connected. He'll know.
As long as they are intelligent hard working clean law breakers, its ok I guess.
Sheesh.
WE have 300 million people in this Country, we don’t need MORE. We need to help our own
Those are very kind words, RedMDer. Thank you.
And my previous post show that I hold you in the same high regard....for years now, actually.
It’s the only answer I’ll support.
They always claim that immigrants create jobs. I suspect that’s restaurants, cleaning, etc. type businesses for the most part, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
However, my guess is that more immigrants go on welfare. We need that research.
What we have is the federal government and us politicians giving away American citizenship like free candy to anyone who wants it.
And they are doing it at the expense of our lives.
They are devaluing American citizenship, they are devaluing America, and I do not want the rest of the world living in my country.
The rest of the world sucks.
Identity theft should raise the number of criminals
HIs whole thing has been about the illegals coming here committing crimes...YEA, YEA I know "they're already criminals"
As long as he secures the fense and doesnt aim to take in the losers, I can be flexible (like I have a choice!).
You’re right. He did say in another speech that any illegal immigrant here with a criminal record would be out and not allowed back. That’s a start. Build a fence and enforce the laws (including penalties and sanctions on businesses hiring illegal immigrants) is the first step. What to do with the others here illegally but otherwise law abiding, contributing and assimilating? I don’t have an answer...that’s a tough one. It is probably not feasible to deport them all...would take forever and we don’t have the resources (human and financial). However, I’m open to hearing options based on merit, skills, education, etc.
What’s it like living on the border?
After all if you can't obey the law you should never be allowed to become a citizen.
“”Well, the first thing we do is take the bad ones of which there are, unfortunately, quite a few .
snip
But before we do anything, we have to secure the border because the border is like having no border,” he added.”
Ah. So we secure the border first, round up the bad players, THEN deal with the others on a “merit” basis.
And don't forget there are probably 30 million illegal aliens here. Not that fake 12 million number the open borders types have pushing for years
bump
Twits will take the nose dive because it's what twits do.

In 2005 Bear Stearns cam up with 20 million illegal aliens. Its a well thought out study called The Underground Labor Force is Rising to the Surface
That could be the same study that I remember... a Wall Street house wanted to get an accurate count of illegals for one of their clients and knew that the “11 million” one trotted out by politicians was utter crap. The study put the number in the 20 millions.
