The House passed a bill Thursday which would punish cities that refuse to enforce federal immigration law.

H.R. 3009 passed easily in the lower chamber 241 to 179, The Hill reported. The bill would force local law enforcement agencies to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement if they have an illegal immigrant in custody; otherwise, certain federal law enforcement grants would be withheld.

“I think we can all agree that any state or locality must comply with the law—and they are required to coordinate and cooperate with the federal government,” said Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., who sponsored the legislation. “If an arrest is made, the federal government should be notified. The fact that San Francisco, Los Angeles and other cities disagree with the politics of federal enforcement doesn’t mean they should receive a pass to subvert the law.”

“And if they do, there needs to be consequences—and the way we impose those consequences is by hitting them where it hurts. In the pocketbook,” Hunter added.

The bill was passed after 32-year-old Kate Steinle was murdered earlier this month, allegedly by an illegal immigrant who was deported from the U.S. multiple times and convicted of several felonies.

Hunter’s bill was voted on largely across party lines. Reps. Carlos Curbelo of Florida, Bob Dold of Illinois, Dan Donovan and Peter King of New York, and Dave Reichert of Washington were the only GOP members of Congress to vote against the measure. Six Democrats voted for the bill: Reps. Ami Bera of California, Jim Cooper of Tennessee, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Bill Keating of Massachusetts, Collin Peterson of Minnesota, and Krysten Sinema of Arizona.

Opponents of the bill have tied it to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who in a statement earlier this week labeled the proposal the “Donald Trump Act.” Pelosi went on to call the bill a “wildly partisan, misguided bill that second-guesses the decisions of police chiefs around the country about how to best ensure public safety.”

“Just a few weeks into his campaign and Donald Trump has a bill on the floor of the House. That is better than some of the senators he’s running against,” Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., a fierce opponent of conservative immigration measures, told The Hill Thursday.

Meanwhile in the upper chamber, Sens. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and Ron Johnson, R-Wis., introduced legislation comparable Tuesday to what has been passed in the House. The legislation, entitled the Protecting American Lives Act, goes a step further with language that includes a mandatory five-year prison sentence for any deported illegal immigrant who re-enters the U.S. illegally.

And yesterday Paul nearly fooled me when he introduced a separate bill to defund PP with a title that said to effect “Paul does an end run around McConnell”. Well then McConnell jumps on Paul’s bill and helps push it KNOWING IT’S GOING NOWHERE AS OBAMA WILL VETO IT. And the two of them can claim they voted to defund PP. That’s how they work and Ted Cruz pointed it out yesterday that they have ‘show’ votes while working to scrap such amendments that are attached to must-pass bills, “bills with teeth”.

In other words McConnell-Paul are puppets of a Kentucky cabal and they are allowed to work on show votes that never go anywhere so that they can stay good with conservative voters.

And you’re pointing out that the Kentucky cabal behind McConnell-Paul is drug related. On first pass it makes sense because Kentucky is a relatively poor state with no real standout industry to lift up its population. That kind of economic situation lends itself to manipulation by drug money.

Then you replace the conditional cut-off of funds, with an appropriation bill that simply defunds the offending cities. (Similar to the Cruz approach to Obamacare, which the whipped cur Republicans refused to back.)

So now I can see it. Racetracks, gambling, prostitution, drugs are what Kentucky has fallen into, and they have a corrupt Senator in DC doing nothing for them. And his little weasel sidekick Rand Paul was likely sat down by drug mafia agents and told he better get with their program. I got it.

We not only need Trump-Cruz we need a whole economic and recovery program to give the new generations hope. Trump is right; bring the manufacturing jobs back from China.

And it can be done. I was 15 years ago friends with the Trustee of one of the 5 large historical Hawaiian estates with corporate control of major US and International corporations such as Hyatt. His son fell into the 70s surfing scene and became addicted to heroin. It’s a long story but it is inspiring what my friend did for Hawaii youth after that. I’ll tell it another time when the time is right. But will say for now that it can be done. It just needs the right leadership that will be strong and never back down. Some of the victims of today can’t be helped for the most part. Their lives are lost as their minds are fried. They will be on disability and assistance the rest of their lives. But the new crop of youngsters can be saved.

hoosiermama says a civil lawsuit will settle them down. I politely disagree as a civil lawsuit won’t teach a lesson and the settlement will be borne by taxpayers with no teachable moments to city staff.

Under a President Cruz or President Trump, they can dispatch DOJ to do a RICO investigation of the SF City staff. All will be under investigation right down to the mail room handlers. You do this to teach a lesson. Then you hone in on the ringleaders and you throw the book at them.

Do it this way one time and a second time will never be needed for any city. Cities will fall inline left and right and history will linger for generations.
