In a July 23 interview published in the New York Observer, actor Richard Dreyfuss said he would like to rewrite the 2nd Amendment to make it clear it applies to the militia rather than individual rights.

You’re gonna need a bigger hearse ...
It is a recognition of a natural right I possess as a human individual. Any firearm I possess, I will not surrender, no matter what legal sophistry you succeed in. I will not walk out seeking trouble.
In the end, if you want it, you must come take it. You will likely win. But I assure you, it will be a win you look back on very grimly. Many people feel as I do. I feel certain of it.
Why is it actors think their opinions are like gold? Stick with what you do best, be an actor, leave the real world to the people that live in it.
In other words, go away boy, you’re bothering the real men.
Mr. Dreyfus’ Opus
Just wait til they realize Article V is a forgone conclusion...guess what the first attack will be against?
and rewrite the 1st Amendment so it only applies to the government as well?
The Whole Bill of Rights was about limiting the power of the federal government and retaining the rights of the individuals.
Sure he does. And/or has armed guards.
Just another typical limousine liberal.
So somebody please remind me for the millionth time why we really should give a sh$t about what some actor like Dreyfuss has to say about something like this?
I’m sure he’s used armed bodyguards at some point in his life. Perhaps even carried himself, legally or illegally.
Who is Richard Dreyfuss? Not the actor! I thought he died years ago.
It already is.
Somebody needs to tell that to Trump. He's all for the 2nd amendment, but for all the wrong reasons (he says people should be able to have guns to defend themselves from conventional criminals because police can't always respond in time), AND Trump has said he supports longer waiting periods to buy guns.
I know, it doesn't have anything to do with Dreyfuss, but it does have to do with acknowledging and respecting the 2nd amendment's REAL purpose. That it flies over Dreyfuss' head is one thing; that it flies over Trump's head is much more serious.
It’s called “planting a meme.”
My friends and countrymen... the powers of the sword are in the hands of the yeomanry of America from sixteen to sixty.
The militia of these free commonwealths, entitled and accustomed to their arms, when compared with any possible army, must be tremendous and irresistible.
Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom?
Congress have no right to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birth-right of an American....
The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or the state governments, but where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people.”
- Tench Coxe, delegate to the Continental Congress in the Pennsylvania Gazette, February 20, 1788
The founders of this country didn’t see “the militia” as being some separate entity. The militia were we the people.
From U.S. Code Title 10 Subtitle A Part I Chapter 13 § 311
(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.
The act that created the National guard in 1903 specifically said that the national guard was not the only militia, it specifically designated the rest of US citizens as being a disorganized militia
The obvious intention of the 2nd amendment was to protect real Americans from tyrants like Richard Dryfus
They do exist, you know. In much, much larger numbers than motorcycle "gangs."
Despite all the talk of "States' Rights", states are by-and-large too cheap to host their own defense forces.
So every state now depends on the National Guard, i.e. the Feds.
So denying gun rights to citizens will end up denying gun rights to all but those who work for the Feds ... or those who now owe huge chunks of their budgets to the Feds, i.e. state and local police forces.
Just another case of a liberal making what he believes to be a "commonsensical" argument which turns out to be another step on the road to tyranny.
“Go for it. All you have to do is get 2/3 of Congress and 3/4 of the States to go along. Easy as pie.”
Or Obunghole to write an executive order
I never understood why a people would care about the words from a profession deceiver.
