One idea that came up was to urge three leading candidates Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor; Mr. Walker; and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida to band together and state that they would not participate in any debate in which Mr. Trump was present, using his refusal to rule out a third-party bid as a pretext for taking such a hard line.
The thinking, according to a Republican involved in the conversations, was that the lesser-funded prospects who have been eclipsed by Mr. Trump would follow suit, and the TV networks airing the debates would be forced to bar Mr. Trump in order to have a full complement of candidates.

Jebba the Bush, Walky Walk and Schmubio not going to show?
Say it ain’t so!!!
The country will DIE if they stay away! You heard it here first!
Remember: If Jim Hoft says it’s true, it’s false.
LOL! Well there you go folks, as if they couldn’t get any more blatant about compromising the election process in this country. You only get to vote for the people THEY choose.
That is absolutely brilliant!
This could be good. It would be the official demise of the GOPe.
Is the GOP playing a game here? Me thinks so. I’ll reserve my additional thoughts on the matter.
Shows how stupid the RNC is.
Any effort to keep Trump out of the debate will make him a victim/hero to GOP voters and will increase his lead in the pack.
They’ll make him go independent. Start planning Hillary’s coronation.
exclude Trump and he’s already said he’ll run third party...
he can easily pull 20 percent, maybe more, that way...
and that will elect Hillary or Bernie for sure, imho.
(which is probably quite satisfactory to those people running the R party, anyway)
They’re just afraid tha they’ll get their wittle feewings hurt because Trump will call them out for the limp wristed, week kneed, lily livered liers that they are.
Misleading headline. Someone threw out an idea and everyone rejected it.
That's been the GOPe plan from the start.
Look at this crap, posing like they're the head of two royal families.
I love watching the GOP-E writhe in agony over his candidacy and popularity (even though I wouldn't vote for him myself).
I reject your hypothesis. Hillary’s unfavorable rating keeps going up. Trump with an excellent VP choice could get people across the political spectrum seeing a Trump presidency as a real good way to throw ALL the DC bums and their enablers out.
This is a really bad idea. And this comes from someone who cannot stand Trump. My idea is to allow him on the debate stage to show what an unserious candidate he is. Once the people see what a true blowhard he is and what an unserious presidential candidate he is, his numbers will fall and he will be an afterthought. Let America tell him “You’re fired!”
