Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) recently laid off more American workers, sending a strong and clear message that the company will continue its policy of hiring many foreign workers.. However, laying off American workers in large numbers to replace them with foreign labor has become a political debate, notes a report from Breitbart.
Business Insider notes that even though the chipmaker is adamant about laying off American workers, it is advocating for an increase in H1B visa workers. Back in March, Sen. Jeff Sessions, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committees subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, rebuked Intel for swapping American workers with the cheaper foreign H1B visa holders.
It was also reported that Intel employees have been laid off based on a policy related to the level of performance-based stock grants they received instead of its standard annual review-based lay-off process. CEO Brian Krzanich reportedly acknowledged that this policy will create anger and dissatisfaction among some devoted employees, but this is how a meritocracy works. He went on to say that the company will continue this policy in future as well. What many employees do not know is if an employee is laid off at Intel, he will never be eligible for rehire by the company.
Intel. along with other tech biggies such as Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB). are advocating for comprehensive immigration reform, along with urging lawmakers to support these increases. Intel supports the I-Squared bill, which seeks to significantly increase the number of H1B visa immigrants allowed in the country.
CNN Money reported that Intel is expected to cut its total workforce of 107,600 by 5%, which is 5,380 jobs. In an internal mail to employees last month, Krzanich stated the company would undertake a restructuring plan that may again require trimming of the workforce. Krzanich did not mention any specific number of job cuts, but a report by The Oregonian stated it would be approximately 3% of the total workers worldwide.
As of 12 pm EDT Wednesday, Intel shares were down 0.79% at $28.49. Year to date, the stock is down over 22%, while in the last twelve months it is down over 18%.
While I'm sure not wanting to go back to a turd world hellhole is a lot of it, for Indians at least, it's a cultural thing. They are almost pathologically disinclined to ever say "no" or disagree in any appreciable way. They are also extremely hesitant to tell you that they don't understand something, much to everyone's detriment.
Any time an Indian says "yeah, yeah" when asked if they understand something, you should get them to describe it back in their own words, otherwise you're apt to be screwed.
Negotiations for that treaty haven't been finalized yet. As such the treaty itself has not been submitted to congress. (This will NOT happen during an election year). The TPP/TPA thing was merely to lay groundrules for debate once the treaty is submitted.
My experience is that most H-1B’s couldn’t spell P.C, or program their way into much less out of a paper bag.
As far as needing details, psuedo code is the word I’d use.
But d*mn they’re cheap !
I have met a few skilled foreign nationals, but they are rare. As rare as skilled Amepikins.
This reminds me (painfully) of when I was RIF’d and replaced by a cheaper guy from India here on an H1B. The premise of his visa being that there was nobody in the US with the skills needed to do the job I had been doing for years....
Where is our pro-H1B contingent claiming no American is ever displaced by corporations wanting cheap labor and only hire foreigners because Americans are too stupid and unskilled to do the job?
I heard from one via FReepmail (and replied in post #33).
Crony Capitalism at its finest.......or worst, depending on which side you fall................
Regardless of who our nominee is they had better have a pro America worker message and be against H-1B visas period. Too many Americans are suffering and a GOP candidate that talks about this program will get eviscerated by the conservative base and the blue collar voters they will need in the election to win.
All need be done is for someone to ask him, among the myriad other questions posed to him.
Re:”I have met a few skilled foreign nationals, but they are rare. As rare as skilled Amepikins.”

Okay,I’ll bite - what is an Amepikin ??
Am.
Mep.
Pi.
Kens.
So now the H1B lovers here on FR have taken to retorting in the shadows...because they know they are dead wrong on this. And are tired of being called out on it.
