COBB COUNTY, Ga.
Cobb County is telling a Kennesaw family to apply for permission to park their kids' cars in their own driveway.
The Oviedo family got a notice of violation for having four cars in the driveway. The family has relatives visiting and two kids home from college.
"I am angry. I am beyond angry. I don't see how the government can tell me whose cars I can park in my own driveway," said Kim Oviedo.
They got a visit Friday from code enforcement, acting on an anonymous complaint. The neighborhood is zoned an Open Space Community. A recent rule changed, and enacted a limit of two cars parked in the drive.
"The fact that my kid's home from college and now I'm a law breaker I guess," said neighbor Mark Talley, who has three cars for the summer too.
"I love Cobb County. I love living here and generally I'm a fan of what we do, but it seems to not make a whole lot of sense."
After Channel 2 consumer investigator Jim Strickland got the county on the phone, officials decided to let the issue slide this summer, but put the family on notice next summer would require a permit to park four cars in the driveway.
"I'm having to pay to park on a property that I already pay tax on," said Oviedo.

That’s pretty ballsy of the gubment in a town that REQUIRES its citizens to own a gun.
Me too! There’s the bus, the Scout, the van, the Lincoln, the Honda, the Mini, and the Willys right now.
As you say; THIS
and a lesson from a turn of the (previous) century revolutionary politician/communist known as MALATOV.
Godless neighbors are not the “neighbors” of which Christ spoke.
“I notice they have a three car garage, which is likely full of crap.”
People aren’t allowed to own crap and store it in their garage? Please, please tell my wife that.
Please.
See something, call it in.
I agree. Been there, never again.
This is similar to not being able to park an RV, Boat, mobile home, no sheds/yard barns, no clothes lines, no unregistered cars, etc. This seems kind of excessive(max two cars). Would this be in addition to the cars parked in their garage?
If it is, it is time to clean out the garage.
I have a deuce and a half, a Gama Goat, a M37, 4 military trailers (one with a generator on it), a flatbed trailer (currently loaded with 28 Gama Goat tires), a F250, and a Nissan Titan parked in my driveway and the peace of mind of living out of town in Texas.
So what? It's their garage, their cars, their driveway and their property. How about we all go over to your house and tell you what you can keep in your garage. Do you have more than the limit of toilet paper rolls in the bathroom and are you in violation by storing some in the hall closet? Over the limit on paper clips in your desk drawer? Too many M&Ms in the candy dish? You can write out the check to Nazis R Us.
The municipalities are strapped for cash. They need money from fines to make ends meet. Last summer I got fined $250 for having weeds in my lawn that were greater than 10 inches. It had rained for a solid week and the dandelion heads shot up to the violation mark. The grass was only 3 inches, but there were about 20 dandelions showing and the overweight woman in uniform, with her tape measure was filling out her book of tickets to make her quota.
If they weren’t sucking up permit fees for an extra parking spot, they’d just find something else to tax you with.
You know you’re a redneck when you mow the lawn and find a pickup.
My drive way is only two car width but we’ve had as many as eight cars parked in it at once. It’s a circus when someone wants to leave and three other cars have to get out of the way first.
I know Id feel safer if there were more driveway laws.*******************************************************************
Any drive way under 50 ft. long should have a 55 mph. speed limit.
Heaven forbid there was an emergency where the fire dept. or police had to show up and block the street with their vehicles. Can’t have granny dying or throw a kid’s birthday party because that’d bring in excess vehicles. Maybe you could bus in everyone or is there also a limit on the size of vehicle allowed to drive through the neighborhood? Mr. and/or Mrs. Oviedo should run for county commissioner and change these ridiculous ordnances.
This is a good reminder to get involved with you local zoning board. Go to their meetings and keep track of what they are doing. Zoning laws keep increasing in number all the time. Some make sense but some are just busybodying.
I got no room to talk about garages. My husband’s side of the garage looks like a serious episode of hoarders but I can still get my car in one side of it. LOL. Our daughter helped load the garage when she married and moved away, leaving all her “treasures.” Gaaaaaaa. I gave up organizing as it is impossible living with an Oscar when you are a Felix.
What kind of a maniac keeps a CAR in the garage?
Garages are for motorcycles...
...and tools...
...and stuff...
;-)
I can’t give too much away here, but four chevies, three Fords, two Hondas, and that doesn’t count the Corvette and Mustang in the garage.
People arent allowed to own crap and store it in their garage? Please, please tell my wife that.
